Data & BI Engineer (Contract)
We currently have an exciting career opportunity for Data
& BI Engineer. The position holder will report to the Finance
Manager, IFRS17 and will be based at Head Office in Nairobi.
Role Purpose
The role holder will be responsible for designing and delivery of
a Data and BI engineering solutions to support the implementation of IFRS 17
developments, integrations and changes on Jubilee’s long term and short-term
core business systems across the East African region and across multiple
instances of UAT environments and production to meet IFRS 17 requirements.
The role holder will leverage on strategic planning, business
analysis and technical knowledge of data engineering, tools, and data
architecture definition and align these to meet IFRS 17 requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure IT infrastructure including the cloud
computing required for IFRS 17 is readily available and functioning
optimally across the region
- Using architectures, data and BI engineering
techniques to design and provide tools dedicated to data extraction,
transformation, Loading, analysis, and enhancement with regards to IFRS 17
requirements.
- Ensure data fields required by the various systems
for actuarial valuation and financial reporting are available and in the
required formats.
- Carry out daily inter-system data validation to
ensure data completeness, accuracy and credibility of data stored within
and between the systems.
- Put controls within the systems to enforce 100%
compliance with data requirements with regards to IFRS 17 across the
region.
- Redesign and continuously customize the BI reports
for IFRS 17 purposes as guided.
- Contribute to build & maintain the global
database to ease exploitation of data.
- Take part in the strategic alignment of IFRS 17 to
Group’s Data Strategic plans.
- Ensure compliance with policies related to Data
Management and Data Protection, in close relationship with the Data
Protection Officer, Security & Risk regulation teams
- Create all required IFRS 17 reports as guided.
- Ensure regular system review to identify any
discrepancies during and after system implementation regionally.
- Lead and execute a systems integration between the
core policy administration systems, actuarial system & IFRS 17 engine,
OFA system and the data repository.
- Conduct System Integration Testing (SIT) and provide
UAT support as defined by the vendor to ensure all modules are functioning
properly and data integrity is preserved between modules and between
integrated systems across the region.
- Work with the system vendor in conducting support
Users’ Acceptance Test (UAT) and user training and manage end-to-end
system and User Acceptance Testing.
- Act as tech lead / expert in liaison with the IT
teams from both sides on system implementation, system integration, system
upgrades and all other IT matters pertaining to IFRS 17.
- Together with the system vendor’s IT team, implement
test plans for functional application areas and ensure testing failures
that may be identified are rectified and inform on system testing
progress.
- Together with the system vendor’s IT team, conduct
the required functionalities and regression tests for the actuarial system
and IFRS 17 engine and report issues for follow up.
- Collate, analyse, and action feedback from the
system vendor regarding IT issues to ensure the IFRS 17 project is on
schedule regarding system implementation.
- Ensure a certificate of completion of data movement
is shared daily end of day with the CFOs and internal auditor and
co-ordinate data and systems audit assessments.
- Collaborate with the larger data team & IT
departments (functional, data, solution and technical architects, data
scientists, innovators, business experts, business analysts, BI
developers) across the region.\

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Software
Engineering, Engineering, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science,
Economics, or any other related quantitative field.
- Python/R integration (preferred)
Relevant Experience
- Technical knowledge of core insurance system
solutions pertaining Life, Pension & Health insurance operations.
- Ability to coordinate and handle server, database,
data storage and general IT architectural designs.
- Proven experience (2+ years) writing complex SQL /
NoSQL statements and ETL processes
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in BI developments
with a preference for the finance or insurance industry.
- Proven experience (2+ years) on Big Data
technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Elastic, etc.
- Development & coding design in
parallelized/distributed environments, preferably in cloud environment
(AWS / Azure)
