Position: Research Assistant (6 positions) KMR 7

Location: Vihiga County
Duration: 8 month
Reports to: Study Coordinator
The position holder will work with a project coordinator and will draw support from a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team.
Responsibilities

  • Work closely with study investigators to plan, deliver and report quantitative and qualitative research activities
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources
  • Assist with data quality checks, data management and storage for field research activities
  • Help maintain an electronic repository of evidence from qualitative and quantitative research activities including ensuring regular cleaning, backups and archiving;
  • Comply with policies on ethical conduct of Research and human subjects protections
  • Prepare individual work progress reports
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with experience, which may be assigned from time to
Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant healthcare discipline including social sciences
  • Two years’ post-graduate work experience in a relevant research-related position
  • Experience in qualitative research methods is an added advantage

  • Familiarity with electronic data collection tools is an added advantage

Position:  Senior Clerical Officer (Receptionist) KMR 9 (1 position)
Location:           Thika
Reports to:      Study Coordinator
Job Description
To ensure that the front office is functioning in an effective and efficient manner
Responsibilities
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of the front office
  • Answers telephone and receives visitors and participants
  • Sorts and distributes incoming mail and deliveries
  • Delivers items to other departments.
  • Schedules and reschedules participants
  • Maintains visitors book and clinic diary
  • Maintains routine clerical records, logs and data and compiles routine reports
  • Maintains order and security at the front office by noting incoming and outgoing
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

Experience

Terms of employment

POSITION: Research Scientist – KMR 6 (1 position)
LOCATION: Kisumu County
REPORTING: Principal investigator
Qualifications
  • A BSc in Microbiology, Biology, Community Health, Public Health or any other relevant/related field from a recognized training institution
  • At least one year of experience in Public Health
  • Fluency in English- both written and
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and attention to details.
  • Good leadership skills, assertiveness, ability to take initiative and work within
  • Flexibility to work long hours, including weekends and public
  • Proficiency in the use of computers
  • Experience with systematic reviews, meta-analysis and/or any form of evidence
Job Description
The Research Scientist will report to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for ensuring that the data collection and filing of all study documents is conducted to the highest standards possible as per the study guidelines. S/he will be trained to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses under guidance. S/he must be flexible and work within the existing structure, professionally and ethically with competence, accountability and integrity.
Responsibilities
  • Writing and reviewing of study and systematic review protocols
  • Searching for literature in electronic databases and other sources
  • Selecting eligible primary studies for the systematic reviews
  • Extraction of information from selected primary studies using recommended tools
  • Resolving discrepancies identified during data extraction
  • Conduct preliminary meta-analyses under the guidance of the supervisory team
  • Contribute to preparing and reviewing manuscripts for peer-review submission
  • Author at least one peer-reviewed publication under the guidance of the supervisory team
  • Maintain, audit and archive documents as required by study
  • Any other duties assigned by the Principal
Terms of Employment: 1-year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first three months. This is a four-year project.
Training opportunities: The post will include on-line or off-site training opportunities in evidence synthesis and meta-analysis
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within the appropriate grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales.
