Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), a
State Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation was
established by an Act of parliament (The Science and Technology Act Cap. 250 of

Responsibilities
·
Carry out general geological surveys (mineralogical,
paleontological, sedimentological, geotechnical

Participate in the investigation and characterization of aquatic
sediment through fieldwork;
·
Participate in the collection of underwater samples and data using
specialized monitoring equipment;
·
Participate in the Analysis and documentation of all site samples
and data collection;
·
Prepare geological reports whenever required;
·
Assisting in preparing annual geology work plans
·
Any other duties in the area of specialization as assigned by the
supervisor from time to time.

Observing and evaluating behaviour Suturing wounds;

Assisting in performing surgical procedures when necessary;

Responsibilities
·
Designing and interpreting scheme and drawings of practical
efficient multidisciplinary aquaculture systems such as recirculatory
aquaculture system, flow through system, off-shore fish cages and aquaculture
waste treatment e.t.c.
·
Analyzing and evaluating the performance of the aquaculture
systems.
·
Supervising and monitoring aquaculture structural projects during
construction and installations of related equipment.
·
Establishing structural engineering standards for different
aquaculture systems
·
Developing maintenance plan for aquaculture systems
·
Arranging for testing of materials
·
Coordinating project documentation

Responsibilities
·
Oversees settlement of issues raised on rules, regulations and
procedures of staff matters like appointments, remuneration, leave, staff exit,
housing and Medicare.

Analysis of operational problems using management techniques.
·
Personnel deployment and utilization.
·
Development of schemes of service/career progression guidelines.
·
Identification of training needs and recommendations on training.

Supervising and guiding officers working under him/her.

Senior Laboratory Technician
Grade: RI.8
Responsibilities
·
Supervision of laboratory technicians at research centers.
·
Collecting, processing, preserving samples from aquatic
environment and other sources. Collecting, preparing, managing and safely
disposing samples and specimens.
·
Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment.
·
Participates in carrying out major analytical work.
·
Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures.
·
Recording of experimental data.
·
Ordering and maintaining stock and resources.
·
Assisting in demonstrations of laboratory functions to clients and
visitors.
·
Guiding junior personnel, interns and students on attachment.
·
Assisting in training and guiding clients on improved technologies
such as seaweed farming, fish farming and value addition.
·
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
For direct appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Accountant II
Grade: RI.8
Responsibilities
·
Examination of payment vouchers in accordance with the laid down
financial regulations. Thorough verification of entries in the general ledger.

Preparation of bank reconciliation statements.
·
Supervision of the revenue collection processes.
·
Control of expenditure and below-the-line (BTL) group of accounts.
·
Undertaking a limited range of management accounting.
·
General supervision of personnel under him/her.
·
Personnel training and development.
·
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
For direct appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade

Grade: RI.7
Responsibilities
This is the entry grade for Accountants. An Accountant III will be
responsible for performing a variety of accounting work of limited scope and
under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities include:-

Examination of receipt and payment vouchers;
·
Verifying and posting data to the enterprise resource planning
(ERP), ;
·
Verifying postings to the general ledger and making corrections as
necessary.
·
Verifying entries in the cashbooks and advising the cashiers on
corrections to be made as necessary.
·
Limited preparation of bank reconciliation statements.
·
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into this cadre. An officer in this level
will work under guidance and supervision of a senior officer. Duties and

verification and control of stores.

Inventory and disposal of stores.
·
Processing requisitions.
·
Reporting shortages and losses of stores.

Senior Coxswain
Grade: RI.7
Positions – Two (2)
Responsibilities
·
Overall in charge of the Seamen and Coxswains.
·
Piloting boats.
·
General discipline and good order of the ship’s crew at all times.
·
Movement of personnel in and out of the ship at all times.
·
Maintenance of correct records of the ship.
·
Maintenance of complete records of lost and found property in the
ship and its disposal.
·
Executing disciplinary measures within the ship fairly and in
accordance with regulation. Supervising crew and ensuring compliance with
routines and standing orders.

Ensuring that there is no trafficking of unauthorized persons,
cargo, or liquor on board.

Responsibilities
An officer at this grade will be required to independently
