Media Relations Internships
The International Potato Center (CIP)
seeks a highly talented Media Relations Intern to help improve CIP’s social
engagement
CIP (http://www.cipotato.org)
is a not-for-profit international agricultural research-for-development
organization with a focus on potato, sweetpotato, and Andean roots and tubers.
Its vision is of roots and tubers improving the lives of the poor.
Duties
·
Establishing and building press
relationships (broadcast, radio, print, social);
·
Pitching press on a daily basis,
creating releases, advisories and quick story ideas in collaboration with
program and staff leads, project communications officers in the region and
partners;
·
Identifying story angles based on
media coverage, trends and CIP’s priorities – working closely with the Regional
Communications Specialist;
·
Preparing spokespeople; creating
talking points, backgrounders and issue briefs;
·
Organizing media tours, deskside
briefings, editorial meetings for key spokespeople/scientists;
·
Maintaining media database
(Meltwater) globally, ensuring lists are up-to-date, in collaboration with
regional managers and field staff;
·
Creating and optimizing
cross-promotion opportunities with partners and donors
·
Collaborating with field staff and
promotion officers (Aime, David) to maximize efforts and expand reach;
·
Providing general communications
support up to 20% per day with 80% dedicated to media activities.
Requirements
·
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism,
Media studies or related field;
·
1 year Experience in a newsroom or
media environment highly desirable;
·
Proficient in English and Kiswahili;
·
Skills in database management
·
Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills
·
Ability to work in multidisciplinary
and multicultural teams;
·
A Kenyan citizen.
·
Conditions: This is an internship
position open to Kenyan citizens only. The internship contract will be for a
period of three months with the possibility of renewal, subject to performance.

of roots and tubers improving the lives of the poor.
Under the direction and leadership of
the Regional Communications Specialist and Head of Global Communications,
increasing social engagement and share of voice for CIP’s field stories on the
continent, repositioning the organization as the leader in roots and tubers
research and nutritional impact in the field on our social channels – Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram.
Duties
·
Generating, editing, publishing and
scheduling daily content (photos, videos, infographics) that increases share of
voice and engagement across the region;
·
Creating editorial calendars,
evergreen content and identifying cross-promotional opportunities with partners
and regional staff centered on events and campaign schedules;
·
Continuously improving by capturing
and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices,
using paid and non-paid promotion;
·
Strongly collaborating with other
departments, including country managers and field staff to showcase CIP’s
impact on the ground, making real time engagement a priority;
·
Integrating executive leadership
voice with CIP’s social platforms to amplify awareness and to promote CIP’s
work;
·
Helping CIP embrace new technologies,
training field staff on creating real-time video and live video for social
media, seeking opportunities to enhance video and live output on a weekly
basis;
·
Creating digital campaigns to promote
CIP’s work;
·
Being a community manager on social –
responding to direct messages and comments were appropriate;
·
Helping with other communications
tasks to support the Regional Communications
·
Specialist, up to but not exceeding
20% of their time per day.
Requirements
·
Bachelor’s degree in communications
or related field of specialization;
·
Proficient in graphic design – Adobe
Photoshop, Adobe Premiere pro, HTML and photo editing;
·
1 year experience in digital content
management;
·
