Job Vacancy: Installation Lead

Job Description: As an Installation Lead your primary responsibilities are to deliver renewable energy systems and solutions to our clients.  

You will be installing, testing and commissioning those systems in a safe and professional manner.  

Your value to the company is directly related to your ability to manage teams of Installations Technicians on site and take responsibility for installing PowerGen solutions per our system designs.  

You will report directly to the Installation Manager or the VP of Installations who will communicate with you regularly in order to help you set goals and provide feedback on your progress towards achieving them.

What You'll Make Happen:

A more complete – but by no means exhaustive – list of responsibilities is provided below:
  • Managing installation technicians during installations on site.
  • Communicating system design and Fabrication requests to the Fabrication Manager and Workshop Manager
  • Driving to installation sites for site visits, installations and periodic maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Liaising with clients prior to, and during, visits.
  • Travel throughout Kenya and East Africa.
  • Liaising with PowerGen’s Grid and Workshop Teams to ensure the correct materials are procured and installations for which you are responsible are completed successfully.
  • Generating balance of materials required for installations.
  • Completing all installation documentation including wiring diagrams, testing and commissioning sheets, installation reports, trip budgets, and expense reports.
  • Properly utilizing internal systems (email, CRM, calendar) to maintain operational organization and help drive sales.
  • Completing quarterly self-review and collaborate with management on training progress and goals.
  • Knowledge sharing – sharing your experience with and training colleagues.
What You Already Have:
  • 2+ years’ work experience in solar PV installations
  • EWURA license in any class
  • Technical engineering background and a demonstrated ability to learn the technical aspects of the PowerGen business and communicate in that language.
  • Prior experience managing and growing teams.
  • Fluent in Kiswahili and English, both in written and oral communications.
  • Intelligent and eager to learn.
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail a must.
  • Hardworking and honest.
  • Enthusiasm in working for the field of renewable energy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible and eager to lend a hand wherever needed, even if a specific task may fall outside the core job description.
  • Candidate should possess a valid Drivers’ License.

Job Vacancy: O&M Technician

Job Description: PowerGen Grid Operations strives to optimally serve customers through ensuring that assets achieve optimal performance levels.  

The key to a successful grid operations program is working to prevent issues before they occur, and when problems do occur having established processes for diagnosing and resolving those problems quickly and safely, with limited electricity interruption for customers.  

In order to continuously improve customer experience, the team will implement various demand stimulation, customer engagement and economic development initiatives. 

Ultimately, the PowerGen Grid Operations Team determines what activities must be done to ensure that all physical assets continue to operate optimally while maximizing technical uptime, optimizing customer satisfaction, and minimizing cost.

As an O&M Technician you will be a key member of the PowerGen Grid Operations team, focusing on supporting our East African customers who use electricity from our micro-grids each day.  

You will report to the O&M Manager and you will work closely with the entire Grid Operations team.
 
What You’ll Make Happen:

A more complete – but by no means exhaustive – list of responsibilities is provided below:
  • Dealing with unplanned problems is a key component of the O&M Technician’s role.  You’ll be responsible for addressing and solving unplanned problems on-site, which are either identified by system monitoring or reported by a customer (i.e. electricity outage, asset vandalism, reticulation issue, etc.).
  • You’ll be responsible for creating work plans, budgets, expense reports, and resolution reports to support O&M trips.
  • When dealing with unexpected issues, you should establish a comprehensive understanding of the issue through detailed fact-finding and implements an established procedure for correcting issue in timely fashion. 
  • You will work with various PowerGen stakeholders to identify an issue and solve it correctly.  All unplanned maintenance activities should always be based on thorough root cause analysis to ensure that the failure does not re-occur.
  • As an O&M Technician, you’ll also be responsible for preventative maintenance activities that are standardized and regularly scheduled activities designed to identify and prevent any type of negative consequence before it happens.  This includes quarterly maintenance trips and regularly scheduled diesel generator refueling trips.
  • You’ll be responsible for providing feedback in a standardized manner across various teams at PowerGen - including Installations, Grid Development, Procurement, System Design and Grid Operations - to enable long term improvement of design, installation, service and O&M.

You Already Have:
  • 2+ years’ work experience in above-ground distribution, PV solar installations, and generators.
  • Technical engineering background and a demonstrated ability to learn the technical aspects of the PowerGen business and communicate in that language.
  • Valid EWURA license, Class D or above
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English, both in written and oral communications.
  • Valid Drivers’ License.
  • Intelligence and eagerness to learn.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility and eagerness to lend a hand wherever needed, even if a specific task may fall outside the core job description.
