The Kenya Veterinary Vaccines
Production Institute (KEVEVAPI) is a state corporation established under the
State Corporations Act, (CAP 446) through Legal Notice No. 223 and operating
under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, The State
Department of Livestock mandated with the production, manufacturing, research
and marketing of veterinary vaccines.
The Board is seeking to appoint a committed, experienced, dynamic, and results oriented Chief Executive Officer who will lead the institute towards attaining and delivering on its mandate.

The position will be for a
three year contract period renewable once subject to performance.
The successful candidate
shall be offered a competitive remuneration package in accordance with State
Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) guidelines.
Job Description: The Chief Executive Officer shall
be responsible to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines
Production Institute to provide strategic leadership in the implementation of
the Institute’s goals and objectives towards achieving its mandate.
The successful candidate
shall be responsible for the day to day activities of the Institute.
The duties and
responsibilities shall include:
1. Developing,
recommending to the Board, and implementing the long term strategy, business
plans, and annual operating budgets and establishing proper internal monitoring
and controls;
2. Ensuring
effective administrative structures, processes and systems are in place;
3. Overseeing
financial management and investment undertakings;
4. Ensuring
that the Institute has an effective management structure, including succession
plans;
5. Ensuring
continuous implementation of the Institute’s corporate policies, programmes,
performance contracting and the achievement of financial and business goals and
objectives;
6. Preparing
business proposals, reports, board papers, and other submissions for
consideration by the Board;
7. Providing
regular, thorough and prompt communication to the board on key technical,
financial and administrative matters;
8. Ensuring
that all board papers are accurately written, are relevant and are availed to
the board members in good time; and effectively execute, and communicate
board’s decisions, strategies and policies;
9. Being
responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image
of the Institute;
10. 1Ensuring
Continuous improvements in the quality, value and diversity of services and
products provided by the Institute; linking and fostering sustainable business
relationships among stakeholders with institutions in and outside the country;
11. Providing
leadership to senior management and staff and ensure compliance with all
statutory, legal, and regulatory requirements;
12. Advising
policy makers on vaccine development and usage.
Person Specification
1. Have a
Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized University;
2. Have a
Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Veterinary Medicine,
Vaccinology, Microbiology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Finance, Business
Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized university;
3. Have
knowledge in quality vaccine production, management and administration;
4. Must
have ten (10) years of working experience in a relevant field with at least
five (5) years at a senior management position;
5. Possession
of a PhD qualification in relevant field will be an added advantage;
6. Be registered
with the Kenya Veterinary Board;
7. Meet
the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on Leadership
and integrity.
