NGO Internship Opportunity in Kenya

Internship Opportunity: Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung (DSW) is an international development and advocacy organisation with headquarters in Hannover, offices in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and liaison offices in Berlin and Brussels. 

In addition, we are working in partnership with sub-grantees in Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Pakistan.


DSW seeks to recruit an intern to support implementation of the Young Adolescents Project (YAP). S/he will be based in Kilifi.  


The intern will support implementation of YAP activities within Kilifi County and will be supervised by YAP Project Coordinator. 

S/he will work closely with the Project Coordinator, Project Officer and the DSW Coast regional team in delivering DSW’s mandate. 

Areas of responsibility for the position include:
  • Support and monitor mentorship programs in schools
  • Support Peer learning sessions in schools
  • Support in administering tools and collection of data
  • Support in project documentation (collecting stories from the field, writing field reports and taking photos during activities).
  • Assist the project team in organizing and planning of activities, meetings and trainings
  • Add meeting representations at the community level
What He/She will learn:
1.    How to engage Young Adolescents in meaningful discussions on issues of sexual reproductive health and rights.
2.    Relationship and network building and how to work with Young Adolescents

3.    Documenting stories and sharing Information for learning purposes
4.    Creative feedback and strengthening of communication between DSW-YAP, Mentors and YAP Schools
5.    Access plenty of additional opportunities in related projects.
What We Require:
1.    Diploma in community development, social sciences or other related discipline.
2.    Strong communication skills.
3.    Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
4.    Self starter, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
5.    Creativity and flexibility
6.    Familiarity with social networking sites desired,
7.    Interest in non-profit management and community development.
Duration: The position will be for a four month period (November, 2016 to February, 2017)
