The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is a company licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to facilitate the trading of financial products through the provision of a trading platform for listed securities. 

In line with this mandate, the NSE is seeking to recruit a qualified, dynamic, self- motivated and results- oriented individual to fill the following position:
 

Clearing Operations Support Analyst
 
Overall Purpose: The Clearing Operations Support Analyst role is a blend of general technical and business knowledge, as well as the overall architecture of the Exchange, Clearing Systems, and network.

The job holder will thus be required to understand the Clearing platforms and apply technical knowledge to improve system performance and reliability. 

Additionally, he/ she will have strong operational skills and experience in financial services preferably in a Banking environment.
 

The position reports to the Manager, Trading.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Run daily operations procedures including overseeing end of day clearing and banking runs;
  • Ensure efficient and accurate transaction processing across a broad range of products;
  • Provide troubleshooting services and support as the primary liaison between the NSE, NSE Clear, other internal departments, and the clearing members; and
  • Responsible for the overall daily clearing operation processes and services.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate Degree - analytical or financial related subject favoured;
  • General knowledge of derivative markets both locally and internationally;
  • Robust analytical skills;
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and risk awareness; and
  • Dynamic self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as be a solid team player.
Desired
  • Exposure to commodity markets, financial trading environment, or equity brokerage business is essential; exposure to futures markets, a plus;
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Equities Derivatives Specialist or Fixed Income & FX Derivatives Specialist
 
Overall Purpose: The Derivatives Specialists will lead business development with a primary focus on generating revenue and working closely with various stakeholders to deliver products, solutions and services in the derivatives market.
 
The candidates will be entrepreneurial, comfortable in fast pace, client and result driven environment and must feel at ease scripting and pricing derivatives and strategies with a strong knowledge of market practices, risk measures and hedging practices.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for activities associated with enhancing existing and creation of new derivative products;
  • Provision of derivative support and customer relationships;
  • Implementation of solutions to support new product and client offerings;
  • Coordination and communication with various internal and external stakeholders inclusive of direct client interaction;
  • Driving sales, managing leads and generating revenues in line with set targets.
  • Research, analysis and keeping abreast of other derivative exchange products, OTC derivatives, competitors and regulatory changes/ trends and assist in formulation and implementation of new policies and rules;
  • Presenting new product proposals to Executive Committee for approval if required;
  • Design and stress test proposed billing models through back testing and simulated spread sheets and databases. End goal to create profitable pricing for products;
  • Creation of educational and training material; and
  • Conducting of education and training to all existing and potential stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related or any other relevant field;
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA, ACCA, ACI and membership to a relevant professional body;
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in capital market environments and/or significant treasury trading, sales or operations roles at a commercial bank.
Key Competencies
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, moderating style and delivery to suit different parties and media;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills;
  • Desire to develop and maintain client relationships;
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel);
  • Strong settlement product knowledge (FI, Equity or FX);
  • Strong product knowledge and experience in Equities, Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, settlements, cash management, fund management, risk management and regulatory environments are desired.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure in a fast paced multi-tasking environment; and
  • Proactive and self-motivated.

Senior Officer – Market Supervision
 
Overall Purpose: Monitors compliance by Issuers and Trading Participants with the Capital Markets Authority Act & subsidiary legislation and the Nairobi Securities Exchange Rules and Regulations.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and analyzing the interim and end year financial reports of listed companies and Trading Participants for compliance with the Capital Market Rules and Regulations and the NSE Rules;
  • Reviewing Information Memorandums from prospective issuers on the Main Investment Market Segment, Alternative Investment Market Segment and Fixed Investment Market Segment, Growth & Enterprise Market Segment and preparing final reports on compliance issues as provided by the NSE Listing Rules and Regulations;
  • Reviewing and preparing preliminary reports on material announcements made by listed companies to ascertain compliance with the NSE continuous reporting obligations;
  • Conducting quarterly compliance inspections on Trading Participants to assess their compliance with the Capital Markets Regulations and the NSE Rules;
  • Conducting investigations into suspected or reported violations of NSE or CMA Rules and Regulations by acting on the daily surveillance reports, investor complaints and any other sources of information;
  • Maintaining the monthly investor returns by listed companies and performing variance analysis reviews to ensure compliance with the Capital Markets Foreign Investors Regulations; and
  • Recommending appropriate amendments to the capital markets legal and regulatory framework.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, and Economics or similar disciplines;
  • Professional qualification in accounting or finance such as CPA, CFA, CISA or other related fields; and
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the capital markets.

  • Very good report writing skills;
