Role Purpose:
 
The Cashier will support the Finance assistant in delivering the Finance teams’ objectives in a timely and accurate manner. 
 
Scope of Role:

Reports to: Finance Assistant

Dimensions: Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since 1984, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. 

Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. 

Save the Children has an operational presence in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Eldoret, Habaswein, Mandera, Meru and Wajir and has a logistics hub in Garissa. 

Currently, we have a staff complement of approximately 370 staff and expenditure of approximately US$30 million this year.

Key Areas of Accountability:
  • Prepare Petty Cash Form, and request additional cash as necessary.
  • Carry out cash count every week with the finance Assistant.
  • Ensure that supporting documentations are correct and authorized well.
  • Prepare payment vouchers, and receipt vouchers.
  • Maintain float and salary advance registers
  • Be responsible for petty cash held in the office
  • Prepare cheques and ensure that they are properly delivered.
  • Record all transactions in the  computer systems as appropriate

Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Professional qualifications in Accounting (CPA I section finalist)
  • Recommended a minimum of over 1 year experience in Accounting/financial management; payroll, purchase ledger, cash / bank reconciliation in an INGO
  • Strong working computer skills especially in MS Excel
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, preferred. Somali language preferred.
