Health, Safety and Environment Officer

KETRACO’s mandate is to design, construct, operate and maintain
new high voltage electricity transmission infrastructure that will form the
backbone of the National Transmission Grid in line with Kenya Vision 2030.
KETRACO wishes to recruit a suitable candidate to fill the position of the Health, Safety and Environment Officer.
The position will report to the Head of Security Services.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide
safety and health advice to Management, KETRACO staff, and other stakeholders;
- Develop
and implement overall Safety and Health Policies, Procedures and training
programmes in line with Occupational Safety & Health Act, 2007;
- Undertake
safety audits and timely accident/incident investigations and compile
reports;
- Identify
unsafe acts, conditions and hazards, investigate root causes and identify
corrective and preventive actions and report to Management;
- Develop
and maintain safety and health performance measures, reports and
monitoring processes;
- Undertake
regular staff sensitization workshops/training sessions on safety,
Emergency and fire evacuation;
- Develop
and maintain safety and health training records for all KETRACO staff;
- Guide
in the purchase of appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment;
- Ensure
Safety and Health Committee is operational/functional;
- Liaise
with Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services and other
safety & health practictioners for continuous update of health and
safety practice at KETRACO;
- Communicate
changes in safety and health legislation to KETRACO Management and staff;
- Liaise
with on-site contractors to ensure their compliance with company safety
regulations and adherence to safety standards including basic induction
training;
- Maintain
data base of all safety incidents/accidents reported; and
- Prepare
weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual safety reports.
Education/Professional Qualifications
- Must
be in possession of a Science based Bachelor’s degree from a recognized
university. A degree in Occupational Safety & Health will be an added
advantage;
- Must
have at least 7 years’ experience in Health Safety and Environment
Management; two of which should be in Safety Audits and Quality Management
systems;
- Must
be registered with Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services
as a Safety Advisor/Auditor.
- Registration
with NEMA as a lead expert will be an added advantage.
Skills and personal attributes
- Be
computer literate
- Have
ability to adapt quickly and be flexible to new demands, priorities and
take a firm stand where necessary;
- Have
excellent communication, Organizational, planning and analytical skills.
