Africa International University (formerly Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology – NEGST) is a private Chartered International Christian University with its main Campus located in Karen, Nairobi. 

We have Cohorts in Eldoret and Nairobi among other partnerships.

We are seeking highly motivated professionals to fill the following positions as we experience tremendous growth:

Full-time Lecturers

Applicants for lecturer positions must have a Masters Degree in relevant fields, with at least between 2-5 years teaching experience at a university level, after attaining the Masters. 

PhD Degree holders and those with evidence of relevant research and publications will have a distinct advantage. 

The lecturers will be expected to undertake research, develop and mount short courses as well as teach in regular university programmes.

i. Lecturer in Theology

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in Systematic Theology or Theology and Culture or Theology and Development with teaching experience at a graduate level for at least 3 years. In addition they must subscribe to Evangelical Christian Faith. Those at the rank of Senior lecturer already stand a better chance.

ii. Senior Lecturer in Organizational Leadership & Governance/ Business Management Leadership

Applicant must have a PhD or Masters Degree in Business and Management Leadership or Organizational Leadership and Governance with 5 years teaching experience, evidence of quality research and at least 3 publications/ articles.

iii. Lecturer in Strategic Studies

Applicants must have a PhD Degree with competencies in Strategic Planning, Management, future emerging trends, forecasting. They also must have at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

iv. Lecturer in Law, Ethics and Governance

Applicants must have a PhD or Masters Degree in Constitutional Law with competencies in values, ethics and governance with at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

v. Lecturer in Computer Science/ Management Information Systems

Applicants must have a PhD or Masters Degree in Computer Science/ Management Information Systems or Information and Communication Technology with at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

vi. Lecturer in Political Science

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Political Science with at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

vii. Lecturer in Family and child studies (including values inculcation)

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in Sociology/Anthropology or related areas with at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

viii. Lecturer in Youth studies, Demography, Population and Life skills

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in Demography / Population studies, Social Work, Sociology or Masters degree in the above backed by a track record of field experience with at least 3 years teaching experience in a university level.

ix. Lecturer in Finance or Accounting

x. Lecturer in Human Resource

Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Dean of School, this position shall be responsible to design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of teaching to students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and to determine, develop and carry out relevant independent research projects to extend knowledge of the appropriate subject area in tandem with the vision and mission of Africa International University.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and post graduate students (on campus , e-learning and distance/extension) in areas allocated by the Head of Department.
  • Supervise or assist with supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  • Participate in departmental and faculty meetings and seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
  • Write lecture material and handouts and presenting information in lectures, seminars and tutorials and through other methods to facilitate education and learning.
  • Set, mark and assess learning tasks and provide timely feedback to students and the department.
  • May be member of departmental planning team to determine teaching programme for the academic year.
  • Take feedback from students to improve teaching methodologies and content within the department/faculty, for example, changes to make to course material.
  • Write papers on topic relevant to specialist subject area such as for journals, books and other material using appropriate media.
  • Write dissertation reports and providing references for students.
  • Participate as member of departmental/faculty subject group, determining teaching requirements.
  • Participate in relevant committees within AIU as requested by management
  • Attend conferences in specialist subject area to liaise and network with national/international colleagues the role holder may, on occasion, be invited to give presentations and lectures in his/her specialism and/or organize sessions in conferences or workshops.
  • Maintain own continuing professional development.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • PhD degree in the area of specialty with one publication OR Masters degree combined with 5 years teaching at University level and at least three publications.
  • Professional qualification relevant to area of specialty is a plus.
  • Computer proficiency in basic MS Office packages.
  • Experience in assessment of student work, course content design and development.

Medical Doctor

Applicants must have a University Degree in Human Medicine from a recognized institution and Postgraduate training and qualifications in the medical field. 

They must be board-certified and registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists board and have at least 6 years working experience in a reputable health centre/ hospital in a similar position. 

The successful candidate will work in the University Clinic on agreed terms and schedule.

Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting ton the DVC – Finance & Admin., this position is charged with the responsibility and oversight for all operations of AIU clinic. 

The position holder develops and implements policies, procedures and best practices and assures that the facility is in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and management of disease and injuries at the AIU clinic.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and regulatory requirements, liaising with other department heads to ensure the University’s objectives are met facilitywide.
  • Undertaking managerial responsibilities such as planning the workload and staff management at the clinic.
  • Maintain accurate medical records on patients, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other health care professionals.
  • Promoting health education and training, as well as auditing and research.
  • Follow up on patients and make referrals for further medical care if necessary.
  • Ensure safe custody and keep records of drugs and medical equipment.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret medical records, vital statistics, and other data affecting health service in order to assess the AIU community needs and to plan and implement medical programs to meet these needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

Director, Institute for the Study of African Realities (ISAR)

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in an appropriate academic discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience at the equivalent of associate professor or full professor level in a higher education environment combining academic instruction and administration.

In addition they should have proven exposure in matters of ethics, law and governance at national and or international scope. 

The successful candidate must demonstrate proper understanding of “African Realities” and offer strategic leadership in programme development for the Institute. 

Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting to the DVCAA, this position provides strategic vision, leadership and administrative oversight for academic programs in ISAR and gives guidance and direction in the areas of management of human and financial resources. 

The Director is a key member of the Academic Board.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop, articulate and present the vision for ISAR and translate this vision into strategic goals by developing the unit assessment plan related to AIU mission and strategic planning objectives.
  • Provide curricular leadership in relation to University-wide goals by initiating, sustaining, delivering, or eliminating academic programs and school core curricula in accordance with strategic planning goals.
  • Ensure that curriculum planning, program development and community engagement activities support excellence in scholarship, research, teaching and learning.
  • Develop and review academic policies which may be recommended for the University policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all the Academic matters related to ISAR, and serve as chief advisor to the DVCAA on the same.
  • Give leadership to articulation of fresh expressions of theology of mission of God and its full expression in African contexts, evaluating the needs and African realities that create opportunities to serve.
  • Plan and implement programme of seminars, conferences, courses, consultancies, and research initiatives for centre.

Director, Undergraduate Studies

Applicants must have a PhD Degree with substantial experience in coordinating undergraduate programmes and be able to interpret the Ministry of Education policies and take appropriate implementation action of undergraduate level education.

They also must have undergraduate degree and or Masters in Education and be creative and innovative in curriculum development. In addition, they must have served as HOD or Director in an institution of higher learning for at least 2 years.

Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting to the DVCAA, this position provides institution-wide strategic leadership in the area of undergraduate education. 

The director has academic oversight of the undergraduate curriculum and a variety of undergraduate academic issues including but not limited to academic advising, admission standards, articulation agreements, and academic suspensions and re admissions

Main Responsibilities:
  • Working with Deans and HOD’s in making sure that undergraduate programmes are properly implemented and promoting both innovation and excellence.
  • Coordinating the faculty activity in quality assurance and academic audit, working closely with the Teaching Quality Assurance Office.
  • Developing new undergraduate courses and schemes of study and scrutinizing and monitoring existing course provision.
  • Managing student admissions and advising to ensure that undergraduate students take what they are best qualified for and are motivated to do and in line with their personal development goals.
  • Working very closely with Dean of Students and Dean of community life in handling a variety of undergraduate students’ issues.
  • Working closely with Marketing and Recruitment to seek and analyze market intelligence, encouraging new course developments to meet identified demand, and scrutinizing all course proposals against known demand.
  • Reviewing departmental recruitment plans, monitoring recruitment to all courses and improving entry standards.
  • Working with Academic Deans to ensure that all quality controls are fully in place in partnership programmes and that development and monitoring of programmes is similar for AIU courses and partnership courses.

Director, Distance and E-Learning

Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in a related field with 5 years experience in Distance and or E-Learning work and understand the emerging trends in the ICT world. 

Those with a PhD degree have a definite advantage.

They should have served as HOD or Director in an institution of higher learning for at least 2 years. In addition they should have advanced computer software skills and digital media and e-learning content development tools. 

Proven ability to effectively manage projects in a collaborative, team-based environment and knowledge of university programs and distance learning approaches to instruction will be a distinct advantage.

Overall Job Purpose:

Reporting to the DVCAA, the Director provides strategic vision, leadership and administrative oversight for distance and e-learning and gives guidance and direction in the areas of implementation, supervision and evaluation of the online learning activities and system. 

The position holder works closely with Information Technologies department and Academic teams to support the cross-functional and cross departmental delivery of online teaching and learning.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the development, maintenance and implementation of all on-line learning related policies and procedures ensuring compliance.
  • Works closely with instructional Deans, Program Directors and faculty to facilitate development of course material and offering of courses through the online Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Works with IT Department to refine Learning Management System(s) technological infrastructure and to maintain a competitive multimedia online learning program and to equip and enrich IT support systems to support users of the e-learning systems.
  • Oversee all programs offered at each centre currently at AIU Karen campus, Eldoret, Nairobi Town campus, KIST and others that may be established in future.
  • Responsible for budgeting and ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources required for carrying out e-learning tasks in coordination with IT.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective expansion of distance and e-learning territory of AIU.

Funds Development and Mobilization Officer

Applicants must have University Degree in Commerce or Communication with specialization in marketing and/or fundraising. 

Relevant Masters and postgraduate qualification will be added advantage.

Proven work experience of not less than 3 years in fundraising and/or marketing in a large multi-sector organization is required. 

Similar productive experience in fundraising with a non-governmental organization (NGO) with international exposure and a good portfolio of local and international fundraising contacts or associates will be definite advantage.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, this position shall be responsible to Plan, coordinate and implement specific assigned fund raising activities consistent with the approved fund raising goals of Africa International University.

Key Result Areas:
  • Increased funding for AIU and realization of Transforming Hope Capital Campaign.
  • Communications and proposal writing in regard to funds development.
  • Establishment of a Funds Development Department as part of the AIU Institutional Development with a strategy and structure integrated with the AIU strategic plan
  • Research and develop new funding opportunities.
  • Maintain a Data Base for different constituents making contributions to AIU funds.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Write or assist in drafting fundraising/grants proposals and related written materials.
  • Prepare a long term, five year fundraising strategy to raise funds locally and internationally based on the AIU Transforming Hope Capital Campaign 2011-16.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities to include policies, strategies, prospect clearance and donor recognition with an aim of meeting set targets.
  • Maintain year-round communications with funding partners, including written reports, funding partners surveys and in-person meetings providing information on projects of interest to funding partners.
  • Represent AIU before a variety of individuals and groups, providing information concerning fundraising activities and programmes.
  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions to the Management.
  • Develop and implement a plan to prospect and establish new corporate, foundation, church and donor relationships with a goal of increasing funds.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with current corporates, foundations, churches and donors with a goal of continued and increased donations from funding partners.
  • Develop an annual budget and detailed written operating plan local and international fundraising.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and management within a team structure for transparent, effective and efficient fundraising efforts.
  • Work with Directors to develop revenue projections for the year.
  • Maintain and fulfill an accurate list of funding partners benefits.
  • Assist Director in determining fiscal requirements for development activities and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance and Administration

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, finance or economics with minimum 5 years experience in a senior financial and business responsibility preferably in an institution of higher learning.

Experience in the areas of financial planning, fiscal management, budgetary systems, capital development projects, risk management and procurement with competency in MS Office Applications and Accounting packages is required. 

In addition they must have professional accounting qualifications and be members of ICPAK or relevant accounting professional body. 

Membership of Association of Governing Boards of Universities & Colleges will be added advantage.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, this position oversees the finances and administration of the University and is responsible for the development and implementation of sound financial and administrative policies, control and procedures that ensure the realization of its mission and objectives.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible as the Chief financial officer for overseeing the financial business of the University.
  • In consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, chair the committees concerned with the business and financial management of the university and shall serve on other appropriate committees by virtue of office
  • Develop and implement all fiscal, administrative policies and appropriate procedures to ensure common understanding in the performance of duties and responsibilities and align them to the University’s strategic plan.
  • Participate as a key member of the University’s Management team and Senate and collaborate with the teams to develop and/or review the strategy and direction of the University.
  • Communicate the University policies and regulations to ensure adequate standards of financial control as well as regulatory and statutory compliance.
  • Review and approve financial and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Review audit reports, finding and recommendations to ensure implementation of the required compliance actions.
  • Report on the University’s overall financial position and ensure the timely advice regarding operational issues and the production of the yearly Financial Reports.
  • Carry out an analysis of potential opportunities and threats and plan and manage risk that they would present to the University’s operations.
  • Oversee the strategic management and the successful implementation of all financial and administrative information systems.
  • Work with the University schools/departments to develop and monitor capital and operating budgets and research funds.
  • Provide leadership in negotiation of grants and contracts to ensure that all financial requirements meet the University’s best interests.
  • Take part in the University’s development plan.
  • Maintain and build relationships by participating in a variety of committees, both internal and external to the University.
  • Teach Courses as may be necessary in your area of expertise and competence.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Council or the Vice-Chancellor;
Qualifications and Experience:
  • PhD degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, finance or economics.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience of senior financial and business responsibility preferably in an institution of higher learning.
  • Professional accounting qualifications and a member of ICPAK or relevant accounting professional body.
  • Member of Association of Governing Boards of Universities & Colleges.
  • Experience in the areas of financial planning, fiscal management, budgetary systems, capital development projects, risk management and procurement.
Skills and Abilities & personal attributes:
  • Must be a committed evangelical Christian
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication and negotiation skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to lead and develop a cohesive team
  • Competency in MS Office Applications and Accounting packages.
