Coffee Development Fund (CoDF) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture vested with the responsibility of providing sustainable, affordable credit to coffee farmers.

The Fund invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the following vacant positions:

Legal Officer

We seek a legal professional to join the Fund’s Management Team; advising the Fund on legal matters; ensuring appropriate interpretation of CoDF legal safeguards & rights at all times; ensuring safe custody of legal records; carrying out research on legal matters related to the Coffee sector and will be the Principal legal advisor to the Fund.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare, vet and negotiate contracts, leases, formal agreements and other legal instruments to meet the laid down stipulations for execution, participate in settlement and arbitration of disputes to protect Funds interests.
  • Conduct legal research, investigation, preparation of witnesses for pre-trial and hearing, develop concept papers, prepare legal briefs and opinions as well as develop effective defence strategies arguments and testimony in preparation for legal proceedings of cases in liaison with external lawyers.
  • Keeping safe custody of the Funds Instruments and documents such as organisation seal, charged documents & suit papers.
  • Advising the Fund on all legal matters related to its activities and mandate.
  • Arrangement for Board meetings and coordination of the preparation of agendas and Board papers for Board meetings.
  • Authenticate documents issued to the Fund as collateral, securities or support documents for loans & Undertake conveyance.
  • Advising the Fund on all legal matters relating to employee relations & contract appointments for its entire staff.
  • Ensure full compliance with Law, legislative issues, policies and procedures as stipulated by the statutes.
  • Ensure that the loaning and the financial procedures and rules developed are compliant with legal requirements.
  • Represent the Fund in any litigation or legal suits filed by the Fund or against the Fund, handle court assignments in the Lower and High Court involving legal process and procedures on civil and criminal matters.
  • Maintain an up to date record of gazzetted matters which relate to the Fund
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Managing Trustee.
Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized university.
  • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate,
  • Must not be having a pending disciplinary case.
  • Certified Public Secretary (CPS) (K) or its equivalent.
  • Have proven interpersonal skills, management and leadership qualities.
  • Excellent business communication and report writing skills.
  • Good appreciation of strategic planning processes.
  • At least four years hands-on experience in commercial law in a busy law firm or a large corporate organization.
  • Computer literate.
Human Resources & Administration Assistant

The Fund seeks to recruit a Human resources & Administration assistant to provide support regarding human resource matters and administrative co-ordination.

Key Competences:
  • Good teamwork, interpersonal, communication skills
  • Good personal organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail required
  • Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Support to administrative and logistical services
  • Support to office maintenance and assets management
  • Good knowledge of Human Resources & Administration rules and regulations
Duties and responsibilities
  • Performing Human resources & administrative duties for the Fund.
  • Handle procurement for the Fund.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of office facilities and equipment e.g. equipment, telephones, vehicles, furniture and conservancy.
  • Co-ordinate the management of office services.
  • Administrative support to meetings, conferences, workshops, retreats.
  • Maintain an efficient document management system.
  • Assist with compilation of reports and other communication material.
  • Ensure proper local transport management.
  • Maintenance of files and records relevant to office maintenance.
  • Promote cordial industrial relations, values and work ethics in the management of the Fund, and
  • Participation in staff recruitment & training for the operations/projects staff on administration.
  • Establish and maintain a mechanism for developing an accurate database necessary for staff training needs, assessment and manpower planning,
  • Handle staff matters including but not limited to; leave management, reward systems, staff training, staff medical scheme, Gratuity management and advise the Fund on disciplinary issues
Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this position a candidate must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business (Human resources) or social sciences from a recognized university.
  • At least two years experience of Human resources, administrative support and office management experience in a busy organization.
  • Demonstrable experience in organizing meetings, conferences and workshops.
  • Capacity to take initiative, demonstrates good judgment, and work under minimal supervision.
  • Good written and communication skills.
The successful candidates will be employed on a 3-year renewable contract.
