AMREF in Kenya is looking for a highly motivated and results oriented individual to join a dynamic team of programme and project staff and help bring better health for Africa, to fill the following position.

Research Officer
Ref. No. KCO/HR-TSO008/2011

The position reports to the Deputy Country Director and is based in Nairobi.

Purpose of the Job:

To provide technical research support to the entire AMREF Kenya programme.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support programme and project teams to design and implement research.
  • Coordinate the research cycle including but not limited to concept and protocol development, data collection, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Provide the Secretariat for the AMREF Ethics and Scientific Review Committee (ESRC) and act as its Secretary.
  • Organize and provide the Secretariat for the AMREF Annual Technical Meeting (ATM).
  • Provide writing and editorial assistance in the preparation of grants, protocols research reports and manuscripts.
  • Contribute to the production of publications and research related presentations.
  • Scan environment and compile updates on upcoming local and international health conferences.
  • Coordinate collaborative research activities with individuals, academic/research institutions and strategic partners.
  • Maintain repository and inventories of AMREF in Kenya research products.
  • Manage organization resources including finances and assets.
Qualifications and Competencies:

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences or its equivalent, a post graduate degree is desirable.

Five years working experience in managing research, NGO experience is an added advantage. Skills in study design, research methodology, data analysis, report writing, dissemination for various audiences including policy makers and peer review processes.

Strong quantitative and qualitative in the use of statistical analysis packages such as STATA; SPSS, Epi info. S/he should demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and produce reports on time and work both independently with multidisciplinary and multicultural team environment.

S/he should have good communication, planning and organizational skills.
