AMPATH Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Job Vacancy in Kenya

The Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH) is a project under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in collaboration with Indiana University School of Medicine, all uniting their resources towards tackling Kenya’s major health problems.

AMPATH operates in 24 Government of Kenya health facilities and 24 additional satellite centers in Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western Provinces. AMPATH expanded its services from comprehensive HIV care and treatment to include Primary Health Care (PHC) and Chronic Disease Management (CDM).

AMPATH is also providing ’Monitoring & Evaluation Support for Phase I of the MTCT Free Zones in Rift Valley and Nyanza Provinces’, a project conducted jointly by the Government of Kenya, AMPATH, and UNICEF.

Position:
 Monitoring and Evaluation Manager

We are seeking a full-time Monitoring and Evaluation Manager for project activities. The position will be based at the AMPATH Centre in Eldoret.

This position will also involve wide travelling within the western Kenya region and occasionally Nairobi The individual will report directly to the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist of the USAID-AMPATH Partnership.

Duties

The Monitoring and Evaluation Manager will be primarily responsible for
  • Develop and implement performance monitoring plans internally and for external stakeholders.
  • Attending all meetings associated with this project at the District, Provincial, and National level.
  • Working in collaboration with the Provincial Epidemiologists and other key stakeholders to draft and revise the necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), data collection tools, and reporting templates.
  • Preparation of reports for submission to stakeholders as required.
  • Identification and problem-solving issues with project implementation and data quality, including assisting in the development and application of data quality measures.
  • Providing operational guidance on how to carry out data use workshops and meetings.
  • Provide technical leadership for the National Data Quality Audit, and provide technical support to the national, provincial, and district levels.
  • Provide support supervision to the District Health Management Teams.
  • Provide technical leadership in the implementation and evaluation of the mother-baby pack.
  • Represent AMPATH Program at workshops and other Forums related to M&E as directed by the M&E specialist.
  • Liaise and network with other partners on M&E issues.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in public health, health policy, epidemiology, or related field.
  • A PHD or proof of near completion of PHD will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in monitoring and evaluation, epidemiology, or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Excellent understanding of data collection and data analysis methods are required.
  • Excellent computer skills are required, including demonstrated expertise with SAS, Stata, R, or another statistical package.
  • Experience working with governmental bodies as they relate to improving health outcomes at the community or facility levels a strong plus.
Terms of Employment

The successful candidate will be employed on a 1-year renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and allowances.
