ARD, Inc. (http://www.ardinc.com), an international development consulting firm based in the USA, is accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a USAID-funded, two year project in the Nakuru and Mau Forest region of Kenya.
This program will protect biodiversity, improve livelihoods, and reduce conflict over resources in the upper Mara River catchment of the Mau by:
(1) improving land and natural resources tenure,
(2) restoration/ protection of critical catchment, forests and biodiversity,

(3) improvement of livelihoods for catchment residents, and
(4) comprehensive outreach on policy, rights, tenure, and natural resources conservation in the Mau.
Positions:
1. Land and Gender Specialist-Legal background
Based in Nakuru. Experience in rural legal land/settlement and natural resource issues, with emphasis on equity issues between genders, age groups (youth) and ethnic groups. Experience working with rural communities and displaced people highly desirable. Law degree and 5 years of relevant experience required.
2. Natural Resource/Enterprise
Based in Nakuru. Experience in natural resources/watershed management and connections to rural livelihoods. Interest and experience in financial opportunities presented by ecosystem services and climate change related to forest management highly desirable. Experience in participatory analysis and planning with communities is essential. Master’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience required.
3. Public Information/Education
Based in Mara-Mau (site to be determined). Experience in conceptualizing, planning and implementing people-centered public information campaigns for rural multi-ethnic rural populations subject to conflict using a range of tools and media. Will be responsible for managing a satellite “Mara Outreach Center” which will form a hub for field based activities. Master’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience required.
4. Conflict Management Specialist /Facilitator
Based in Nakuru. Experience in managing diverse conflicts including within and between communities and between community members, government agencies and the private sector. Experience in building capacity of community groups for conflict management around land and/or natural resources is required as are good facilitation skills. Master’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
