The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2006 to work with African governments, farmers, donors, NGOs and the private sector to reduce hunger and poverty in Africa through agricultural development targeted at resource poor farmers.
AGRA has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and an office in Accra, Ghana.
AGRA is seeking to recruit exceptional and experienced individuals to fill the following senior level positions:
Director, Human Resources
Ref: HRD/06-1O
This position will be based in Nairobi on a renewable five-year term contract and will report to the AGRA President.
Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Directing and managing the HR strategy and policy functions in all locations with AGRA offices.
  • Providing HR services for approximately 100 AGRA staff both in Kenya and Ghana.
  • Introducing and managing organizational change and development initiatives.
  • Developing talent management and managing recruitment and selection process.
  • Ensuring compliance with Kenya and Ghana employment laws and regulations.
  • Leading all aspects of compensation and benefits administration.
Key Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Human Resources Management or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Human Resources Management, 5 of which should be at a senior management level.
  • Proven HR experience in an international organization, a private sector or a public sector set up.
  • Experience working in developing countries in particular, as well as proficient knowledge of HRIS technology is essential.
Director, Monitoring and Evaluation
Ref: DME/06-1o
This position will be based in Nairobi on a renewable five-year term contract and will report to the AGRA President.
Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing the design and operation of an MEtE system.
  • Supporting the Management Committee and the Board in linking evaluative results and learning with the AGRA Strategy and Results Monitoring system.
  • Providing appropriate capacity building, coaching, mentoring and strategic guidance to AGRA staff.
  • Assisting Program Directors and country level teams to achieve sustainable impact within each AGRA program country.
Key Qualifications
  • An Advanced University degree, preferably a PhD in an applied research discipline including Development  Economics, Sociology, Agriculture and Rural Development.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience of technical implementation of MEtE work and at least 5 years of managing the  MEtE function in a complex international organization, with a track record of  scientific publications.
  • Deep knowledge of agricultural development in Africa.
  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills and knowledge of evaluation tools and methodologies.
Senior Resource Mobilization Officer
Ref: SRMO/06-10
Initially based in Washington DC on a renewable three-year term contract, this position will report to the AGRA President.
Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Developing a comprehensive resource mobilization strategy for AGRA and establishing resource mobilization targets.
  • Projecting financing gaps for AGRA and its programs; mobilizing resources from bilateral and multilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, and other sources.
  • Assisting in streamlining the preparation of proposals for donor funding across all AGRA programs.
  • Determining and managing donor funding cycles, policies and conditionalities.
  • Determining donor’s fiduciary, legal, audit and financial reporting requirements and ensuring full and timely compliance with requirements.
Key Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Finance, Financial Economics, Financial Management, Law, Economics, Business Administration, International Relations or Communications.
  • High-level experience of at least 10 years in international development, including working in resource mobilization for UN agencies, private foundations or NGOs, or donor-aid programs.
For all the positions, the ideal candidates should have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work both with autonomy and with a team in diverse cultural contexts. They should also have outstanding written and oral communication skills in English, with knowledge of French as an added advantage.
