Regional Governance Coordinator, East and Southern Africa

We seek to employ a qualified, competent and proactive governance activist as Regional Governance Coordinator
for the East & Southern Africa Region (EASA), to strengthen our work with poor and excluded people and communities so as to advance their rights, entitlements, and social justice.
The main purpose(s) of this position will be:
  • developing and supporting new governance initiatives and strengthening of programmes that enhance the thematic work on just and democratic governance in East & Southern Africa, particularly work on local governance including accountability & empowerment, and democratization processes at local, national and international levels; support fundraising for national and regional projects; participate in knowledge development work (research, concepts, methodology, documentation and training).

  • The role will be responsible for supporting various governance projects undertaken by the country programmes at the grass roots and national level in EASA, as identified in Governance thematic element of the Country Programme Strategies, as well as in the International Strategy on Right to Just and Democratic Governance.
  • The role also involves developing capacity building programmes and coordinating cross country learning and sharing as well as strengthen the country programmes and partner’s capacity to do effective and quality programme work on governance and ensure effective mainstreaming of governance work into other AAI themes.
The successful candidate will preferably have a degreevin Social Sciences, e.g. Economics, Political Science, Development Studies or any other relevant field, at least 7 years experience in Governance related issues with CSOs, networks and social movements both at national, sub regional and regional levels; good conceptual clarity; analytical capability; knowledge base on issues related to development; poverty; governance; democracy; issues of  constitutionalism; human rights; and decentralization in Africa; ability to work in a multicultural environment; French will be an added advantage; a proven track record in initiating and managing work at national and regional/international level will be an added advantage.
