East Africa Regional Laboratory Lead Job Vacancy in a Kenyan Medical Technical Support Organization

A leading medical technical support organization is looking for competent driven individual to fill the following position:
East Africa Regional Laboratory Lead 
One position based in Nairobi
Description of Duties

Under the broad guidance of the Laboratory Director the incumbent will:
  • Work closely with HQ program personnel and senior technical advisors to develop regional and country specific laboratory program strategy.

  • Manage the implementation of different program in laboratory field in East African region.
  • Plan and coordinate operations for the laboratory program.
  • Directly provide supervision to organization’s in-country laboratory staff, including, but not limited, developing scopes of work, providing technical supervision, developing policies and procedures, training staff, providing guidance for staff, and providing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support lead laboratory position in every country, including their function to supervise and train their team and implement their country specific programs.
  • Work with laboratory director to develop new programs, projects, or evaluations to implement in the laboratory program.
  • Establish, develop, maintain, and manage relationships with USG, MoHs, WHO, universities, other partners, vendors, and organizations staff.
  • Manage meetings with various stakeholders and support advocacy efforts for the regional laboratory program strategy.
  • Write and collaborate reports as requested for project achievements and project plans. This includes assessments for each in-country program, semi-annual reports, project timelines, project scopes of work, and project implementation plans.
  • Evaluating laboratory program strategy effectiveness.
  • Ensure quality control of staff and laboratories through performance updates and establishing quality assurance program.
  • Oversee data collection and management. Analyze data retrieved through laboratory assessments and quality assurance data collection. Produce reports to summarize findings for USG and the organizations headquarters.
  • Work closely with assigned faculty and staff to further the execution of research studies, protocols and program.
  • Draft, write, edit and prepare training documents, technical reports, and oral presentations related to this work.
  • Coordinate and assist in centralized training sessions for laboratory personnel.
  • Maintain functional efficiency and productivity of entire regional laboratory program.
Required Qualifications
Education Essentials:
 Degree in Medicine from a recognized University with postgraduate degree/diploma in microbiology, immunology, virology or equivalent OR PhD from a recognized University in microbiology, immunology, virology or equivalent.
Desirable:
 Training or degree in public health or tropical diseases.

  • Ability to create and manage a budget.
Experience
Essential:
  • At least five years or equivalent experience in the development and implementation of laboratory programmes, specifically in the area of HIV, TB and malaria, at state and national level working closely with government and/or international agencies.
  • At least three years professional experience with personnel administration, financial management, program planning & coordination, and administrative functions.
Desirable: Experience in developing and conducting training programmes for health personnel, development of strategies for strengthening human resource and health system capacity for augmented laboratory strengthening programmes; quality assurance systems and monitoring and evaluation techniques.
Languages
  • Excellent knowledge of English required.
  • Good knowledge of Kiswahili would be desirable
