A leading European coffee trading house requires a general manager to be based in Nairobi, Kenya to head up its regional coffee export business.
Nairobi is the group’s hub for all trading, logistics and finance in East Africa. The general manager has the responsibility to generate synergies with all existing operations in the region.
The ideal candidate will be capable of leading a team of expatriate and locally employed managers, have strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills and possess the vision and ability to structure the business to meet the challenges of the future.

Primary Responsibilities
- Assume management of the trading, procurement and processing operations with responsibility for the bottom line
- Develop marketing strategies to ensure consistent growth of existing coffee operations and improve the group’s competitive position
- Review and enhance all existing relationships within East Africa and other countries
- Seek, recommend and develop new technical and trading opportunities across the region
Skills and Experience
- Wide experience in physical coffee trading preferably with significant time spent in origin
- P&L responsibility through differential and outright trading
- Good technical knowledge of coffee processing plant and procedures
- Sound coffee cupping/liquoring expertise
- Strong leader and communicator
- Working knowledge in English, but ability to speak French will be a distinct advantage
Essential Qualifications
- Preferably, a university degree or equivalent
- At least 5 years experience in a senior management position in green coffee trading
Location
- Nairobi, Kenya but will involve extensive traveling in East Africa
Remuneration
- This is a key managerial post with a remuneration package to match the seniority of the position
