Kenyatta University is in the process of opening a new state of the art Hospital - Kenyatta University Hospital (KUH) in line with the University Strategic Plan and the Government Vision 2030 Development Plan.

Clinical Services, Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager
 

Reporting to the Deputy Director Clinical Services, the Clinical Services Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager will plan, direct, coordinate and provide research in compliance to clinical ethics, regulations and standards among clinical services, clinical staff and their activities and advise on the same at KUTRRH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Make work plans and work schedules and allocate work to the other staff in the section of the hospital. 
  • Design or implement improvements in communication, monitoring, or enforcement of clinical compliance standards in the hospital. 
  • Review or modify existing clinical policies or operating guidelines to comply with changes to environmental standards or regulations in the hospital. 
  • Research and identify clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation in the hospital. 
  • Maintain documentation of clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance activities, such as clinical complaints received or investigation outcomes in the hospital. 
  • File appropriate clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance reports with regulatory agencies within and without the hospital. 
  • Conduct or direct the internal investigation of clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance issues in the hospital.
  • Report violations of clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance or regulatory standards to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate or required within and without the hospital. 
  • Serve as a confidential point of contact for clinical staff to communicate with management, seek clarification on issues or dilemmas, or report irregularities in the hospital. 
  • Ensure, organize and implement continuous training on compliance related topics, policies, or procedures among clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance staff in the hospital. 
  • Discuss emerging clinical compliance issues with the management and clinical staff at the hospital. 
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical compliance systems to ensure their effectiveness and efficiency, prepare reports and disburse them accordingly in the hospital 
  • Verify that clinical software technology is in place to adequately provide oversight and monitoring in all required areas in the hospital. 
  • Supervise, mentor and guide junior clinical ethics, regulations and standards compliance staff and students in the unit of the hospital.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in a Clinical Specialisation from a recognised institution,
  • Masters’ Degree in Clinical Specialisation from a recognised institution, and
  • Diploma in Total Quality Management or its equivalent from a recognised institution
  • At least three years’ working experience as a Clinical Services Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager or its equivalent in a reputable hospital.

Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
 

Reporting to the Deputy Director Clinical Services, the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will coordinate and provide medical laboratory services, coordinate pathology research and training and advise the hospital and public on pathology matters at the KUTRRH

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for all laboratory services and resources required in the in collaboration with KU’s Laboratory Department, participate in and contribute to the overall strategic planning of the hospital.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the hospital strategic plan in unit the within its vision, mission and culture of the hospital and other national and international healthcare and frameworks.
  • Chair laboratory unit and act as its contact person in clinical referral services, research and training matters in the hospital.
  • Ensure that the laboratory unit of the hospital has all human and non-human resources required to offer pathology services, research and training in the hospital
  • Participate in the recruitment and disciplinary action and processes of laboratory staff in the hospital.
  • Coordinate and provide laboratory services and service delivery in the laboratory unit of the hospital ensuring that they meet the expected standards and compliance in the hospital.
  • Supervise laboratory staff together with their services, in the laboratory unit of the hospital to ensure that they offer timely laboratory services within the expected standards, complying with the established ethics and regulations in the hospital.

  • Coordinate and provide laboratory research and training within the hospital as well as ensuring collaboration and cooperation with the KU’s Laboratory Department.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Master of Medicine in Pathology from a recognized institution
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • At least three years’ experience as a Senior Pathologist, two of which should be Head of Department in a reputable hospital.

ICT / Systems Applications Manager
 

Reporting to the Deputy Director Administration, the ICT Systems/Application Manager will oversee and coordinate the provision of Information and Communication Systems services, solutions and support, and advise the hospital executive on the same at KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Plan for all ICT systems/Applications services required in the hospital, in collaboration with other sections and units heads and thus contribute to its overall strategic planning.
  • Coordinate the implementation of ICT Systems/Applications services component of hospital strategic plan within its vision, mission and culture and other national and international frameworks.
  • Develop application and service strategies and service level agreements, test and deploy plans regularly, in collaboration with business units’ heads, and other key stakeholders in the hospital.
  • Perform end to end applications development lifecycle projects and activities including development, testing, implementation and maintenance of ICT systems in the hospital.
  • Perform tuning, balancing, improvement, automation and usability of the existing software and applications in the hospital.
  • Simulate and model software and applications to fit end users in the different business units in order to facilitate quality service delivery in the hospital.
  • Works with system vendors as required to configure, customise or upgrades to existing systems in order to fit different end user needs in the different sections and units in the hospital.

Human Resource Manager
  
Reporting to the Deputy Director Administration, the Human Resource Manager will oversee, coordinate direct and provide human resource management services, and advise the hospital executive on the same at the KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and ensure planning for all human resources required in the hospital in collaboration and coordination with other heads of sections and units of the hospital and thus contribute to its overall strategic planning.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the human resource management component of hospital strategic plan within the vision, mission and culture of the hospital and other national and international human resource management frameworks.
  • Coordinate all the human resource functions in the hospital and represent the section and its pertinent matters within the hospital.
  • Ensure and maintain an up-to-date hospital human resource register, staff contracts, balanced placement in order to maintain optimal utilisation of all human resources in the hospital.
  • Ensure that the human resource section of the hospital has all human and non-human resources required to offer human resource management services in the hospital.
  • Conduct and coordinate capacity assessment and capacity situations in the hospital in order to ensure continuous sufficiency, efficiency and effectiveness for sustainability and continuous performance and productivity in the hospital.

Reporting to the Director-Clinical Services, the Mortuary Services Manager will provide leadership and management of the Funeral Home, coordinate and provide funeral services at the KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sit as member of the department’s senior management team, participate in and contribute to all its mandates and activities
  • Oversee and manage the corporate affairs function of the hospital by ensuring that all its resources are well planned for in order to support timely and quality service delivery in the hospital
  • Participate in and contribute to the overall strategic planning process for the hospital
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to corporate affairs division for timely and quality service delivery in the hospital

Mortuary Services Manager
 

Reporting to the Director-Clinical Services, the Mortuary Services Manager will provide leadership and management of the Funeral Home, coordinate and provide funeral services at the KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for all funeral home services at the funeral home and thus participate in and contribute to the overall strategic planning of the hospital
  • Ensure and coordinate the implementation of the hospital strategic plan in the funeral home within the vision, mission and culture of the hospital and other national frameworks
  • Set marketing, sales, or other financial targets for the funeral home establishments ensure their achievement within the framework of the hospital’s overall goals
  • Provide leadership and management to the staff in the funeral home by giving them guidance, directions and mentorship in order to offer quality funeral services in the department of the hospital

Director, Kenyatta University Hospital
 

Reporting to the Kenyatta University Hospitality Board of Directors, the Hospital Director will provide strategic direction and leadership to the Hospital, lead the development and execution of the Hospital’s long and short-term plans and ultimately all day-to-day management decisions at the Kenyatta University Hospitality.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities.
 
(a) Leadership
  • Ensure sustained and effective relationships between the Hospital and the Board, Kenyatta University and the Government of Kenya through the relevant Ministries and other stakeholders. 
  • Ensure that the Hospital operates in accordance with its vision, mission, plans and policies set by the Board, by overseeing quarterly monitoring and evaluation (M & E). 
  • Act as direct link between the Hospital and Kenyatta University, which creates an amicable and smooth working environment in order to facilitate collaboration and cooperation between the two institutions for smooth clinical referral, clinical research and clinical training services in the hospital. 
  • Work towards maintaining the Hospital’s profitability in order to ensure that it is financially sound meeting all its financial obligations. 
  • Provide the necessary transformational leadership to the Hospital in order to meet stakeholders’ expectations in line with Constitutional requirements and other legal frameworks. 
  • Ensure prudent and economical Hospital resource management for the achievement of its strategic objectives.
  • Oversee and direct the Hospital’s strategic initiatives and capacity development in line with local and international healthcare frameworks such as Kenya Vision 2030 and UN Social Development Goals. 
  • Oversee, promote and maintain the culture of clinical research and training and ensure that the Hospital has sufficient infrastructure facilities to support it. 
  • Oversee, initiate, establish and maintain inter-institutional collaboration and strategic partnership with other relevant healthcare institutions in clinical referral, clinical research and training services in the region and beyond. 
  • Develop and foster effective collaboration among the Hospital’s departments, staff leadership, faculty and other affiliated services to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the Hospital's clinical service delivery, research and training goals and objectives.
  • Promote and ensure a culture of compliance with all established statutory and professional regulations and requirements, good governance principles and best practices in the Hospital.
  • Oversee and ensure competitive compensation of human resources in order to attract and retain highly skilled individuals in the Hospital. 
  • Oversee performance and reward management by ensuring that performance contracts are prepared and performance reviews conducted in order to identify, develop and reward exemplary efforts and performance as well as motivate staff.

(b) Oversight of the Hospital’s strategic direction
  • Oversee and coordinate the formulation of the Hospital’s strategic plans and other operational budgets, periodic work plans and periodic goals for the Hospital and its departments.
  • Ensure that annual operation plans and budgets are prepared and submitted to the Board and other respective authorities in time and in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Oversee the formulation of the Hospital’s strategic initiatives, objectives and overall Hospital business plans and lead senior management teams in high performance and productivity innovation.
  • Oversee and coordinate monitoring and evaluation of the Hospital’s strategic plan and budget implementation in order to establish its progress and success and determine any corrective actions if there is diversion from the original plans.
  • Act as the Hospital’s overall accounting officer to the Hospital Board and present the appropriate annual financial statements.
  • Evaluate risk and business trade-offs and make changes to develop the optimal business solutions and results.

  • Facilitate the improvement of core processes and systems of the Hospital to achieve set targets and satisfy both the internal and external stakeholders by ensuring provision of service excellence and quality care, at cost-effective rates.
  • Oversee the strategic and operational aspects of referral networks, within the Ministry of Health referral guidelines, to ensure effective partnerships are formed which will facilitate the development of a comprehensive health care system.

Chief of ENT Surgery
 

Reporting to the Assistant Director-Surgery Services, the Chief ENT Surgeon will coordinate and provide speicalised ENT surgical services, coordinate ENT research and training, and advise the hospital and public on the same at KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for all ENT surgery services and resources in the ENT department of the hospital in collaboration with KU ENT Department, participate in and contribute to the overall strategic planning of the hospital
  • Ensure and coordinate the implementation of the hospital strategic plan in surgery department within the framework of the vision, mission and culture of the hospital and other national and international healthcare frameworks
  • Participate in the recruitment processes for ENT surgeons in the hospital
  • Coordinate and provide specialised ENT surgical services and services delivery in the surgery department of the hospital ensuring that they meet the expected standards of quality, quantity and compliance
  • Coordinate ENT surgery referral services within and within and without the hospital according to the ENT surgery services needs in collaboration with other hospital sections and departments and within the framework of the hospital and national referral policies
  • Supervise ENT staff together with their services, in the ENT department of the hospital to ensure that they offer timely ENT services within the expected standards of quantity and quantity complying with the established ethics and regulations
  • Ensure and coordinate continuous training and development of ENT staff for their effective and efficient performance and productivity
  • Coordinate and provide ENT research and training within the ENT department of the hospital as well as ensuring collaboration and cooperation with the KU ENT Department
  • Offer specialised ENT surgery services’ advice to the hospital executive and other sections/departments and the general public in the appropriate media
  • Work with other medical specialists to solve single or multiple medical issue (s) or perform extensive surgery, when required in the hospital
  • Monitor and evaluate progress and achievement of the ENT services, research and training programs in the hospital, prepare and disseminate periodic reports appropriately.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognised institution
  • Master of Medicine in ENT Surgery from a recognised institution
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board or any other medical registration body recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
  • At least three years’ experience as a Senior ENT Surgeon two (2) of which should be Head of Department in a reputable hospital.
  • Valid Practice License
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of relevant legislations

  • Track record of clinical research and training in a reputable institution

Chief of Opthalmology
 
Reporting to the Assistant Director-Medical Services, the Chief Ophthalmologist will coordinate and provide specialized Ophthalmology services, coordinate Ophthalmology research and training and advise the hospital and public on the same at KUH.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for all services and resources of the ophthalmology department of the hospital in collaboration with KU’s Ophthalmology Department and thus contribute to the overall strategic planning of the hospital
  • Coordinate the implementation of the hospital strategic plan in the ophthalmology department within the framework of its vision, mission and culture/philosophy and other national and international healthcare and frameworks.
  • Chair ophthalmology department meetings act as its contact person, as well as its referral services, research and training matters in the hospital.
  • Ensure that ophthalmology department of the hospital has all human and non-human resources required in offering ophthalmology services, research and training in the hospital.
  • Participate in the recruitment and disciplinary action and processes of ophthalmology department staff in the hospital
  • Coordinate and provide ophthalmology services and services delivery in the ophthalmology department of the hospital ensuring that they meet the expected standards and compliance in the hospital
  • Coordinate ophthalmology referral services within and without the hospital in collaboration with other hospital sections and departments within the framework of the hospital and national referral policies.
