Job Description
- You are someone with a post-graduate
academic qualification in nutrition, public health, food sciences,
international development or a related field and a minimum of ten (10)
years in a senior leadership role in international development work with
demonstrated experience in program development, design and management
(with field experience in one or preferably more countries in Africa). You
have demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with public,
private sector and civil society organizations.
- You are experienced in managing financial
resources, understanding of public health and development approaches and
delivery strategies; including concepts of impact and cost effectiveness.
You have an understanding of global international agencies and organizational
strategies and structures, specific considerations in the operating
environment of Africa, excellent program management skills including
strong analytical skills, and experience in strategic, operational and
program planning and budgeting. You have good interpersonal and
negotiation skills within international environment.
- Fluency in English is required. French
will be considered an asset.
Responsibilities:
In this role you will be:
- Working with each Country Director (CD),
co-ordinates the development of annual plans and budgets for the Africa
region for inclusion in annual Program of Work and Budget.
- Ensure that project development, approval
and implementation is carried out in accordance with Nutrition.
International policies and procedures.
- Approve programming proposals within
delegated authority.
- Maintains an up-to-date understanding of
the situation of nutrition within Africa; possess a comprehensive
knowledge of the opportunities and barriers to Nutrition International
programming in the region; contribute to determining Nutrition
International’s Programmatic and Resource Development priorities within
Africa.
- Working closely with the Vice-President –
Corporate Services & CFO, manage the financial resources in the Africa
Unit by ensuring that all offices are operating within their approved
budgets and following all Delegations of Authorities.
- Keep up-to-date with all budget variances
on a monthly basis and ensure that the donor database is being utilized
and regularly updated for all activities as appropriate. Issue financial
approvals within delegated authority limits.
- Coach and mentor all NI CDs in the
region, supporting them to effectively lead their teams to carry out NI’s
mandate.
- Represent Nutrition International at
external meetings as required, including meetings with government
officials, the general public, and the media and Nutrition International
partner network meetings.
- Working with other regional and head
office colleagues support the development of communications materials and
actions within Africa to ensure widespread dissemination and promotion of
information on Nutrition International program activities and achievements.
- Directly supervises all Country Directors
within region and the Finance Director plus 2-3 regional team members.
