Technical Assistant
Key Responsibilities
Mycotoxin and Nutrition platform support
- Provide support in sample
handling.
- Sample preparation by
grinding/milling and drying using various equipment
- Cleaning and dusting of
specialized equipment work benches and consumables.
Perform any other tasks as assigned.
Plant growth facility support
- Prepare soil and soilless growth
media mix and sterilization for use in propagating tissue culture
plantlets.
- Monitor pest and disease
incidences through regular scouting of the plant growth facility and with
supervision of greenhouse supervisor to perform chemical sprays.
- Clean and disinfect potting/
labelling materials.
- Work with green house users in
disposing waste at the end of their project.
- Perform any other related duties
as may be assigned.
Central Core support
- Collection and washing of used
glassware.
- Sterilization of glassware,
media, buffer solutions and laboratory waste.
- Issuance of consumables to lab
users.
- Collect and clean PPEs using
laboratory dedicated laundry machines and return the PPEs to designated
locations in various labs.
- Maintain high standards of
hygiene in specialized labs such as Radioisotope, BSL2/3 conversion lab
and biorepository areas.
Requirements
- Kenya certificate of secondary
education
- Basics in biosafety and First Aid
Training.
- Ability to communicate
effectively, work independently with minimum supervision and productively
in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team.
