Job Vacancy: Programme Officer – Safeguarding
About Us: Kesho Kenya is a dynamic, medium sized and growing NGO currently facilitating over 700 children to access schools and universities and also supports more than 12,000 of their siblings, peers, parents and teachers.
Founded in 2004, Kesho takes a novel long-term, creative and holistic approach to change that includes offering financial support for education, academic and literacy support, enrichment and training, child protection and family support and youth development.

The Position: An exciting opportunity has arisen within Kesho for an innovative, effective, self-driven Programme Officer to design, implement and evaluate Kesho’s Safeguarding Programme to meet our strategic objectives.
The position is for an initial contract period of 1 year and renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
The position location is Kesho office, Kilifi.
Job Purpose: This position is responsible for managing all aspects of Kesho Kenya’s Safeguarding Programme in accordance with Kesho’s Vision and Mission.
Main Responsibilities
Managerial Duties
·         Plan, coordinate and execute Safeguarding activities as envisioned in the Strategic Plan and as per Donor agreement.
·         Design and initiate new projects and interventions.
·         Identify potential partnerships to implement programmes.
·         Liaise with other agencies/NGOs/government bodies/donors to ensure coordination and implementation of common standards in the field.
·         Provide technical guidance and direction to relevant staff for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of Child Protection related activities.
·         Promoting best safeguarding practice across the wider partnership network.
·         Represent Kesho Kenya in meetings with government officials and other actors, to advocate and promote programme goals and objectives, and communicate with major partners on policies.
·         Develop training programmes and assist in capacity building for staff and partners.
·         Ensuring the CP policy is implemented and promoted within Kesho Kenya.
Operational Duties
·         Ensuring all staff are familiar with, and adhere to the Safeguarding Policy. This includes inducting new staff.
·         Ensure quality implementation of all projects as laid out in our Results Based Management system/or as per donor agreement.
·         Acting as a first point of contact for Kesho-Kenya on issues of safeguarding, both internally and externally.
·         Keeping an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the area of safeguarding and family support, including attending appropriate training.
·         Ensuring all relevant information around Safeguarding is communicated to the Core Team.
·         Make frequent field visits to areas of operations to monitor implementation of activities, identify opportunities and constraints and any adjustments needed including additional staffing or staff training.
·         Hold planning and progress review meetings with relevant staff and partners.
·         Optimise all relevant administrative systems and update them in response to organizational growth and need.
·         Support in the development of proposals specific to the Child Protection & Family Support programme.
Qualifications & Experience
·         Graduate degree in social work/social sciences
·         A degree in law will be an added advantage
·         Professional experience working with National/international/NGO and experience in child rights and women empowerment.
·         Knowledge of community based child protection approaches and Alternative Care Processes preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.
·         Comprehensive knowledge of case management and Best Interest Assessment processes for children at risk is a plus.
·         Knowledge of civil society networks in Kenya that focus on child rights issues – and experience of working with these networks on programming and/or advocacy for children preferred.
·         Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
·         Skills and experience in report writing, M&E and budget monitoring are essential.
·         Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
·         Familiarity with programming in the local cultural context, local government and local languages is a distinct advantage.
·         Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
·         Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
·         Fluency in English and Kiswahili, both verbal and written.

The Position: An exciting opportunity has arisen within Kesho for an innovative, effective, self-driven Procurement and Logistics Officer to manage the supply of products and services that Kesho needs to procure in order to keep the organization and it’s projects running at any given time.
In addition to procuring products & services, the Officer will be responsible for ensuring that those products and services are properly received, documented, accounted for, and efficiently transported to project teams if need be on time.

The Officer also takes responsibility for documenting and maintaining all assets and inventory, partnering with the Project Operations team to ensure that projects receive the equipment they require on time.
The position is for an initial contract period of 1 year and renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
The position location is Kesho Office, Kilifi.
Job Purpose: The role is responsible and accountable for the provision of efficient, effective and proactive procurement and logistics support to Kesho and it’s projects with a commitment to constantly finding ways to reduce spending, enabling Kenya to invest more in growth and people, all while strictly adhering to Kesho’s procurement policies and procedures.
Main Responsibilities
·         Responsible for ensuring full implementation of Kesho’s logistics, procurement and administrative policies and procedures, and related donor compliance requirements.
·         Support the effective and efficient planning and processing of all logistics, procurement and administrative activities and transactions for grants and office operations in line with stated policies and procedures, delegation of approval authorities and existing software systems, related to:
·         Formulation, planning, budgeting, implementation and closeout activities
·         Monitoring, compliance and reporting activities
·         Competitive bidding and vendor selection
·         Preparation of requisition requests and purchase orders in line with approval authorities and availability of funds
·         Identify, mitigate on risks such as pilferage, obsolesce, etc and report
·         Secure all appropriate insurance coverage’s
·         Direct the timely compilation of information and preparation of related analyses and briefs for use by senior management for decision making purposes, with an emphasis on meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual planning, budget forecasting and compliance reporting requirements
·         Safeguard all physical assets, and ensure all documents are securely filed
·         Occasionally visit field offices to audit procurement and logistic processes as well as provide guidance as required including cost allocations for mileages.
·         Assist in program reviews and project formulation activities, and perform miscellaneous duties as directed by the Finance Manager
·         Be accountable for the integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of Kesho’s procurement processes and systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience and Personal Attributes
Qualifications & Experience
·         Degree In Supplies, Logistics or any relevant Business Degree
·         Member of Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) or Chartered Institute of Purchasing and supplies (CIPS) is preferable.
·         At least 3 years of experience in the supplies and logistics management preferable in an NGO.
·         Knowledge of best practice procurement practices
·         Competence in procurement planning
·         Ability to coordinate the work of others, work under pressure on tight and different deadlines and handle multiple concurrent projects/activities.
·         Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
