About
the Danish Embassy and the candidate: The
Danish Embassy in Nairobi’s work is guided by the Denmark - Kenya Partnership
Policy 2015-2020 under which the implementation of the Denmark - Kenya Country
Programme 2016-2020 amounting to approximately 15 billion KES has just
begun.
The
Embassy is looking for an experienced and hardworking Peace and Security
Programme Manager to work with the management of the thematic programme on
governance under the Country Programme.
The
candidate is expected to have strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge
of the Kenyan political scene.
We are
seeking a candidate who will excel in a corporate culture where the tone is
informal, and we deliver high quality results on time.
You
are expected to be a team player that is ready to contribute to tasks outside
your own portfolio and share knowledge with and learn from colleagues.
Extensive
knowledge of development programme / project management and an excellent
understanding of issues related to security and conflict mitigation (including
Countering Violent Extremism, CVE), and human rights are considered an
asset.
The
work requires travel outside Nairobi.
Main duties and responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities
As
programme Manager you will work with the management of the governance
programmes with a particular focus on peace, security and stability.
The
tasks will one hand be the administration, monitoring and evaluation of the
programmes in the assigned portfolio including to liaise and have dialogue with
partners.
Furthermore
you will contribute to the overall management of the governance
programme.
This
part of the work will have a special focus on financial management, regular
monitoring visits to project/programme areas, as well as political, social and
economic analysis in the relevant areas.
On the
other hand it involves awareness and action in the areas relating to our
programmatic work and the general political, economical and social development
of Kenya.
This
means participating in development partner coordination and reporting on
relevant political events.
To perform these tasks it is crucial that you have, maintain and improve an extensive network among the actors of the field of governance.
This
being key persons from Government levels, civil society, think tanks and
research institutions, private sector, development partners etc.
Essential qualifications:
- Fluent
written and oral skills in English.
- A
Master’s degree in a relevant area e.g. Economics, Public Administration,
Political Science, Development Studies, Law or equivalent from a
recognized institution.
- A
minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience with a particular focus on
Development Programme / Project management (including administration,
financial management and monitoring).
- Team
player (references will prove the candidate to be a team player), ability
to manage tasks independently, and meeting deadlines
- Expertise
in working within the field of peace, security and stability and/or
electoral processes
Asset qualifications
- Experience
working with relevant governance actors such as Development Partners,
international organizations, Government and/or civil society
- Broad
network with key state and non-state players within the field of security
- Experience
in managing consultancy contracts, audits, evaluations and reviews
- Good
knowledge of results based management,monitoring and evaluation
- Skilled
in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and other
relevant programmes and applications
