- Check the quality of raw or cooked food
products to ensure that standards are met clean food preparation areas,
cooking surfaces, and utensils.
- Determine production schedules and staff
requirements necessary to ensure timely delivery of services.
- Cook and package batches of food, African
foods, which are prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
- Cook the exact number of items ordered by each
customer, working on several different orders simultaneously.
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety
standards in work areas.
- Measure ingredients required for specific food
items being prepared.
- Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as
grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles.
- Order or requisition food or other supplies
needed to ensure efficient operation.
- Read food order slips or receive verbal
instructions as to food required by patron, and prepare and cook food
according to instructions.
- Verify that prepared food meets requirements
for quality and quantity.
- Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for
cooking.
- Clean, stock, and restock workstations and
display cases.
- Schedule activities and equipment use with
managers, using information about daily menus to help coordinate cooking
times.
- Check the quantity and quality of received
products.
- Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on
a regular basis or for special guests or functions
- Record production or operational data on
specified forms.
- Estimate amounts and costs of required
supplies, such as food and ingredients
- set up and stock stations with all necessary
supplie
- Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping
vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
- Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest
of the kitchen staff
- Answer, report and follow executive or head
chef’s instructions
- Clean up station and take care of leftover
food
- Stock inventory appropriately
- Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in
high quality and in a timely fashion
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation
regulations and safety standards
- Maintain a positive and professional approach
with coworkers and customers
Requirements
- Proven cooking experience
- Excellent understanding of various cooking
methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
- Familiar with industry’s best practices
- Culinary school diploma/ Certificate
