Position: General Expenses Controller

Role Purpose: The General expense controller is in charge of monitoring, controlling and improving the indirect cost elements of the company including labour costs, general expenses; property expenses etc. as well as activity monitoring and optimization projects.
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities.

Indirect expenses
  • Labour costs: Basic salary, Overtime, Staff medical costs, Allowances, Bonus/Incentives
  • General expenses; Security, Fleet costs, Travel & living, Insurance, stationery & courier, Staff welfare & hospitality costs
  • Property expense
  • Advertising & promotion
  • Financing, depreciation & other costs; Interest costs, Depreciation, Non-operating taxes, Foreign exchange gains & losses
Out of scope: Direct costs, IT&N costs

Operational Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly tracking cost schedules showing actual costs vs. budget allocations highlighting causes for variance
  • Challenge cost centre owners on cost performance and jointly develop cost saving action plans
  • Implement strong cost center controls to aid in cost optimization
  • Work with sourcing department in identifying cost optimisation opportunities e.g. in renegotiation of supplier contracts
  • Develop adequate policies, procedures and processes for the Cost Control function to maintain efficient operational excellence
  • Develop metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers for effective cost management/reductions
  • Offer financial support and review investment proposals from concerned business units for the IC process.
  • Financial review of property leases and contracts to ensure value for the company
  • Provide input on general expenses to the Cost Model for monthly reporting, budgeting and strategic planning purposes
Monthly Closing and reporting:
  • Review and validate the general expenses to be reported. Ensure costs are posted and reported in the correct accounts.
  • Closely work with accounting to identify all misposting and guide them to allocate to the correct accounts.
  • Determine and post into SAGE the general expense accruals to be made and provisions to be released.
  • Prepare a monthly tracker of general expenses clearly showing their variance to budget and explaining the reasons for variance.
  • Updating of the rolling forecast on a monthly basis
  • Updating of the accrual schedule monthly for the general expense accounts responsible.
  • Review monthly depreciation figures for completeness and accuracy
  • Review monthly non-operating tax provisions figures for completeness and accuracy
  • Review the monthly labour costs for accuracy and reasonableness. Ensure adequate provisions are made for bonus, leave days etc.
Track the non-fixed labour costs and showing a trend analysis and comparison to budget especially on allowances, medical, overtime and temporary staff. 

Academic / Professional Qualifications
  • University graduate in related Accounting or Business field
  • Over 5 years’ experience in accounting/cost controlling or Accounts Payables in a large organization.
  • Qualified Accountant is a plus with experience in telecommunications sector desirable

Position: Prepaid Products and Services Development Manager 
 
Region: Nairobi
 
Reporting to: Head of Products and Services Development

Department: Marketing & Strategy

Role Purpose: 
 Deliver the prepaid products & services roadmap in line with the business objectives, budget constraints and marketing planning of the year. 

Fuel innovation by keeping in touch with the market trends. Act as an end to end project manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
 
Interface between Marketing and ITN teams
  • Act as a facilitator between product managers and technical teams
  • Provide guidance to product managers, especially in the specification phase
  • Support and provide directions to the technical team throughout the product development
Prepaid P&S development roadmap and innovation 


  • Define and maintain the Prepaid P&S development roadmap
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions supporting the Marketing strategy
  • Understand the market (industry, customer and competition) to develop and manage opportunities to grow Prepaid products and services revenues
  • Provide techno-commercial guidance to company management on innovative services
  • Prepare budget forecast for CAPEX and OPEX requirements.
  • Achievement of  set  Monthly, Quarterly, Semi Annually or Annual Marketing targets, especially in terms of project delivery
Manage Prepaid Products & Services development
  • Accountable in specifying, developing & launching Prepaid products & services
  1. Coordinate and facilitate project approval, RFQ, Vendor selection and product development up until the commercial launch of services
  2. Provide regular reporting on project progress in terms of Cost, Quality, Functionality, Delay
Design
  • Production and presentation of opportunity studies for new products: market and revenues assessment, customer needs and value proposition, high-level product description.
  • Production and presentation of marketing requirements / product specification with detailed functional description and customer journey as well as a full business plan
Implementation
  • Support ITN in the early identification of bugs and prioritization of correction depending on severity
  • Report any deviation to the project plans (in terms of cost, quality, functionality, delay)
Validation
  • Ensure technical tests are performed
  • Perform functional and end users tests 
  • Ensure Business process tests are performed
  • Coordinate FUT
Commercial launch
  • Commercial launch preparation.
Academic/ Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree or an advanced Diploma in a Engineering related field
  • Ideally with complementary education and experience in Marketing and knowledge in IT domain
  • Experience in project management and CRM &  Billing systems
  • Experience in vendor management, vendor selection and negotiation.
