Regional Analyst
Save
the Children East Africa Regional Office (EARO) is looking to recruit a
Regional Analyst.
The
Analyst will be a master of intelligence in the area of geopolitics. As a
member of the Humanitarian Affairs Unit it will research and produce reports on
geopolitical, humanitarian and development issues, and analysing long and
shortterm challenges for SCI Humanitarian Response in East and Southern Africa
region.
The
Analyst will also prepare compelling briefs and written analyses on command.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Conduct
extensive research into prevailing humanitarian, socio-economic,
geo-political, security situation East and Southern Africa wide.
- Perform
appropriate methods of network analysis and provide networks analysis to
meet strategic needs.
- In liaise with
country directors, built up a regional network of watchmen through SC
Family (at least one in each country) and collect data and information on
scheduled and unscheduled bases.
- Prepare a
monthly detailed analytical bulletin or the equivalent in briefing papers,
setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.
- Work closely and
liaise with country and regional directors, international and local
stakeholders in gathering information, seeking input and feedback.
- Develops and
expands diverse subject matter expertise on humanitarian, socio-economic,
geo-political, military, and regional stability in support of SCI
Humanitarian Response.
- Contribute to
the planning of a Regional Information and Analysis System through SC
Family.
- Assist the Head
of the Humanitarian Affairs Unit to develop and lead partnerships with
regional key Academics and Think-Tanks on specific strategies.
- Support SCUS
(20% of time) on advocacy and policy issues consistent with SCI
priorities.
- Other duties as
assigned to meet the needs of the Humanitarian Affairs Unit.
Qualifications
and Experience:
- Masters degree
in international relations, political science, journalism, sociology or
equivalent through experience.
- Experience in
political analysis and conflict prevention.
- Three to five years
professional experience in government, academia, international
organizations, NGOs or journalism.
- Excellent
writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate
well-targeted policy recommendations.
- Written and
spoken fluency in English and French, proficiency in Arab and a fourth
language preferred.
- Good knowledge
of international humanitarian systems, institutions and donors.
- Ability to work
in a matrix management environment.
Leadership and Strategic Planning Advisor
Save the Children East Africa Regional Office (EARO) is looking to recruit a Leadership and Strategic Planning Advisor.
Role Purpose:
To
lead on the development and implementation of support packages focused at
improving leadership of country programmes.
This
will be done through a mixture of facilitated trainings and workshops,
coaching, mentoring and deployments with more specific terms of reference.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Work with the
Programme Operations Capacity Building team to provide support for the
Capacity improvement of Country Programmes with a focus of leadership.
- Working with
Country Management team (SMT/ESMT) to improve programme delivery, through
guided discussions and action planning.
- Support will
include provide strategic direction to country management teams and
supporting key planning processes
- To develop the
“Working Better Together” (WBT) leadership programme to facilitate roll
out to country programmes as requested
- To build the
capacity of other members of the Programme Operations Capacity Building
Team to be able to lead WBT
- Provide change
management support to country programmes
- Leading on the
provision of one to one coaching to key operational staff – predominantly
SMT members but on occasion field managers, area managers, provincial
managers
- Work with the
Humanitarian and Leadership Academy within the current East Africa
capacity building hub, key stakeholders within the region and the Global
Academy Office to develop the business plan and strategy development if
required.
Qualifications
and Experience:
- Post graduate
qualification in change management or similar.
- Coaching
qualification, desirable
- International
experience of senior operations management in insecure/humanitarian
context for an INGO/IO
- Proven
analytical and strategic planning skills
- Excellent
representational advocacy and diplomatic skills to enable the post-holder
to operate effectively internally and externally
- Substantial
experience of capacity building and training in an INGO, ideally both at
HQ
- Strong coaching
and mentoring skills
- Substantial
facilitation skills – both for formal classroom based learning and also
more informal learning through discussions and workshops
- Knowledge of
adult learning theory
- Extensive
knowledge of operational delivery
