Shift Supervisor Job in Kenya


Title: Shift Supervisor 

Reporting to:
Production Manager /  Senior Supervisor on operations

Overall Purpose of the Job: Planning and implementation of the overall production objectives within the available resources and time

Responsible for:

  • Machine operators, packers
  • All production activities and Security of Premises when HOD is away on particular shifts
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Implement the work plan as scheduled within the allocated time, staff and available resources
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; initiating, coordination and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHPs) are adhered to i.e. ensure all work center are clean at all times during the shift, ensure proper staff personal hygiene is maintained throughout the production process.
  • Ensure all machinery are in good condition before startup, follow-up on timely repairs of any breakdown in collaboration with the technicians.
  • Ensure efficient machine utilization through optimized operations, preventive machine breakdown maintenance and wastages
  • Maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production records and data timely and offer remedies for continued improvement; answering questions and responding to requests timely eg Updating the job attendance book during shift, generating pick lists, verifying work orders, Posting job done and recording machine breakdown/downtime by the end of the shift
  • Ensuring all quality standards and procedures are adhered to during production processes
  • Ensure that all non-conformances are investigated; root causes are identified with corrective and preventive measures undertaken and reported to your supervisor
  • Coordinating with stores personnel for timely transfer of raw materials and finished goods
  • Facilitates capacity building through talent identification, nurturing and utilization by deploying on basis of qualifications and talents
  • Responsible for staff discipline and ensuring that all indiscipline cases are properly documented and reported to your supervisor by end of shift
  • Provide visible leadership in the promotion of Safety, Health, Hygiene and Environment.
  • To perform other duties that maybe assigned by the Production Manager

  • SOP - Achievement of product quality and quantity as and when required through management of agreed KPI’s as per performance management program
b) Input cost efficiency
  • SOP - scheduled use of machinery and human resource effectively so as to achieve continued reduction in overtime hours and waste with improved output
c) Health, Safety and Environment
  • SOP - Achievement of zero incidents and accidents
d) Statutory requirements
  • SOP - Ensures that all legal and Food safety requirements are followed eg product standards, GMPs and GHPs
e) Staff supervision
  • SOP - Supervises and trains staff on production processes, hygiene and food safety.
Knowledge and skills 
 
Education qualifications required
  • Diploma in food Science and Technology/Nutrition or any other relevant course
  • Degree holder in food science is an added advantage
Work experience required
  • Three years (3) of working experience in a reputable food industry in same position or its equivalent
