Save the Children (SC) is an international organization with 27 member organizations across the globe. It is united by a common mission and brand but, to some extent, has until now been working independently from country to country and within countries.
This will result in one organisation at the national level in
each country and a unified programme delivery structure for all Save the
Children International Members.
Save the Children UK, Denmark and Finland unified in Somalia in
January 2010 under the name Save the Children in Somalia which will move to the
IPU model by the end of 2012.
After one year of unification and as a result of an active
fundraising strategy the programme budget was over GBP I 0m covering thematic
areas of protection, child survival (which includes health, nutrition and
livelihoods), education, and Child Rights Governance.
Job Purpose:
To contribute to Save the Children’s capacity to meet its Child
Survival objectives, through the provision of quality water, sanitation and
hygiene programming.
The role would specifically address water, sanitation and
hygiene needs in emergencies through assessment, programme design, management,
capacity building and evaluation
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead
or support WASH assessments, including interpretation of early warning
indicators, and support to cluster and or other inter-agency processes; - Play
a leadership and technical support role in assessing the WASH needs of
disaster affected communities;
- Ensure
that assessment, programme design and implementation considers children’s
roles, needs and vulnerabilities within the community;
- Adequate
technical support to ensure timely delivery of programme activities (for
example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management
work plans);
- Support
in preparing timely financial and narrative reports on project activities
in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external
donor requirements;
- Ensure
appropriate management and use of SC resources at all times;
- Ensure
that Save the Children’s work in WASH programming is coordinated with
efforts of other agencies and Government, and represent Save the Children
at Interagency Coordination meetings etc

- This
extends not only to children with whom SC and its partners work directly,

their rights supported and demonstrated by all members of staff. Save the
Children’s Code of Conduct sets out the standards which all staff members
must adhere to.
