Norfund (Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries) (http://www.norfund.no) invests in the development and establishment of profitable and sustainable enterprises in developing countries.
Our aim is to contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction. We always invest with partners, Norwegian or foreign, focussing on renewable energy, direct investments and financial institutions. Our main areas of investment are in East and Southern Africa with offices located in Johannesburg and Nairobi.
Additionally we invest in selected countries in Asia and Central America with a regional office in Cost Rica. In 2010, we had a portfolio of about USD 1 billion and around 45 employees
We are strengthening our investment capacity in Africa and are looking to recruit professional investment staff in the following position:

Investment Manager Industrial Partnerships
Reports to: Head of department Industrial Partnerships (HOD)

Main Purposes of Job
1.    To source, execute analysis, structure, negotiate, manage, exit on new and existing deals and contribute to maximise returns and secure high developmental impact;
2.    To contribute to the departments for Industrial partnerships strategy for Eastern Africa.
3.    Maintain and develop Norfunds network in the region. Participate in other teams within Norfund as needed.
Knowledge and Experience
1.    Graduate at master level plus where appropriate professional qualification (economics, finance accounting);
2.    10 years relevant business experience from operative management positions or finance/PE; Agriculture experience will be an advantage
3.    Be able to communicate fluently in English and preferably other languages such as Swahili, French or Portuguese; and
4.    Computer literacy with Microsoft Office suite of programmes and, in particular, financial modelling in Excel.
Key Duties/Activities
Deals origination, management and exit
1) To develop new business contacts and potential sponsors and respond to enquiries, attend seminars, etc according to a set of marketing targets and priorities agreed in advance with the HOD.
2) To manage deal progress from inception to exit, against agreed timetable and in conjunction with the HOD as project manager or as team member. In particular, to
a) evaluate investment proposals from potential clients for preliminary discussion with HOD to decide whether to take forward to Investment Committee;
b) to prepare papers for the Investment Committee;
i) analyse business plans and write investment cases for investment committee approval
ii) Present cases in the IC
c) analyse (or supervise the analysis of) companies from a financial, operational, and industry perspective and create valuation models to support transactions, including DCF models and comparables
d) execute field work to support due diligence processes
e) support other investment projects and other project teams when needed
f) maintain good relations with management and sponsors, Norwegian embassies in the region, and, where appropriate, co-financiers and governments;
g) manage the commitment and disbursement procedures;
h) maintain that information is up to date in archives and portfolio management systems;
i) manage the performance of current investments under his/her responsibility; to monitor investments, including completion of required reporting (Valuations etc.); to recommend any delegated authority during investment life.
j) manage compliance with environmental and health and safety covenants and to increase awareness of the issues with a view to helping clients reach international standards.
k) take initiative, as appropriate, to maximise deal performance and ensure returns on Norfund equity investments is enhanced and realised by developing appropriate exit strategies;
l) take all prompt and necessary action to protect Norfund interests in ‘problem’ investments.
m) To execute annual follow up audits to investee companies.
Marketing and Policy
1.    To contribute to the overall marketing of Norfund as agreed with the HOD eg presenting road-shows, interviews with the media, etc.
2.    To contribute to the policy/strategy development of Norfund.
Administration (maximum of 5% of time over a year)
1.    To assist with the administration of the office, as agreed with the HOD (including preparation of corporate plans and budgets, completion of requests for information, compliance with NORFUND internal audit standards, etc).
Other
1.    The Investment Manager must sign and carry out his/her duties according to Norfund’s International Code of Conduct
2.    Extensive travelling in the region will be necessary.
