The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre) is an independent mediation organisation, based in Geneva, Switzerland dedicated to helping improve the global response to conflict. It attempts to achieve this by mediating between warring parties and providing support to the broader mediation community.

The HD Centre is driven by humanitarian values and its ultimate goal to reduce the consequences of violent conflict, improve security, and contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflict. The HD Centre’s activities in Africa are managed out of its Nairobi-based regional office which is headed by the Regional Director, Africa.

The HD Centre is hiring a Project Officer to handle assigned project(s), a number of assessments and watching briefs and to support the Regional Director, Senior Program and Project Manager on specific areas of work.

He/She will carry out the following duties:

  • Monitor media coverage in priority countries;
  • Develop and maintain watching briefs, conflict mapping/assessments on priority countries as an avenue to identify and develop new work for the Africa Office;
  • Draft and update project proposals and narratives, as well as mission reports and budgets;
  • Provide support in managing project budgets;
  • Conduct field work as deemed necessary, support the preparation of roundtables, meetings and workshops;
  • Represent the HD Centre at partner forums and liaise regularly with external actors;
  • Travel with the Regional Director, the Senior Program Manager and the Project Manager as required
  • Act as officer-in-charge in the absence of the Regional Director, Senior Programme Manager and Project Manager;
  • Provide additional support as required by the Regional Director.
Requirements
  • Degree in a Social Science field, preferably with a focus on international relations, peace and security;
  • a minimum of 4 years experience in a similar field;
  • professional experience in Africa preferred;
  • experience with a regional or international organisation favored;
  • strong organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • an understanding of and experience in peace and security issues;
  • excellent written skills (English required, French or Arabic preferred).
