Senior Strategic Communications Advisor Job in Kenya

Summary of Role:  

The Senior Strategic Communications Advisor serves as the strategic advisor and counselor to the President of Africa, overseeing the overall coordination, visibility, and facilitation of the communications strategy execution for the region. The Advisor oversees Pathfinder Africa brand, internal and external communications to elevate Pathfinder’s profile in global health and development.

Responsibilities also include monitoring and reporting on specific communications initiatives and projects within the executive office to ensure alignment with Pathfinder’s strategy, commitments, and goals. The Director plays a key role in fostering cross-departmental relationships to support visibility success and partners closely with the Africa leadership team to manage the Office of the President Africa, ensuring efficient delivery of priorities.

Additionally, the Advisor will serve as the lead for global social media collaborating with global, regional, and country teams to implement existing strategies and effectively communicate Pathfinder’s vision and agenda; and engage key stakeholders through the flagship social pages.

Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Communications and Global Social Media Leadership and Management: 

Heads the Africa communication team overseeing Africa branding and internal and external communications to elevate the organization’s profile in global health.

Oversees President’s communication strategy, including developing briefing materials for meetings, trips, speaking engagements, and donor related work, ensuring President is fully prepared for external engagement.

Manages the development of talking points and organizes cross- functional, organization-wide teams to create necessary background materials on Pathfinder’s programmatic work and global public health issues.

Collaborates and provides direction and advice to Pathfinder country program teams on the appropriate and best fit communications content and tactics in meeting their positioning and profile-raising needs in line with the existing communications and social media strategy.

Oversees social media working group and social media contributors from across the organization to ensure representation of Pathfinder countries, projects, issues, and key priorities on Pathfinder’s flagship social media channels.

Strategic Research:

Proactively exploring new opportunities and ideas for increasing the impact of the programs’ work through communications, staying on top of latest developments, news and research, and building connections with other external individuals and organizations.

Acts as key broker between academic research teams and policy influencing communications, helping to translate and make accessible complex research outputs into engaging, policy influencing communication tactics.

Works with Country Directors and Project Leads to develop solutions and strategies for improving the reach of research outputs through activity implementation and activity evaluation.

In consultation with the Country Directors and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team, identify, develop, and facilitate processes to generate, capture and apply the team’s learning to ongoing programing and for future stabilization programing.  

Thought Leader & Senior Team Member:

Manages the delivery of a thought leadership and content pipeline/planner, identifying timely external hooks and moments, and work with the Project Communications teams to produce content for these (including publications, blog content, video, and other multimedia content, and pitching and placement of external content with external editorial and media sites).

Represents the President internally and externally, acting as a liaison with key executives, staff, country offices, and external stakeholders.

Serves as a project manager and implementer for strategy within the President’s office, ensuring alignment with Pathfinder’s overarching strategy.

Serves as a part of the senior leadership team alongside other Division Leaders.

Fosters strong cross-departmental collaboration to facilitate leadership success across all levels of Pathfinder Africa.

External Engagement:

Manages President’s external engagement participation including interfacing with external organizations, stakeholders, and partners.

Organizes relevant internal stakeholders in cross-functional, organization-wide teams to develop necessary items to advance partnership creation.

Serves as an interlocutor to external organizations and partners to advance strategic priorities.

Facilitates relationship building and management for the President, including tracking priority relationships and developing collateral materials for effective representation of Pathfinder and the President.

Supports the President in all work around revenue generation and enhancing visibility of Pathfinder in the region.

Crisis Management:

Develops plans for emergence standard process for managing crisis and works with Group Leadership Team to address the specifics of an emergency.

Required Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor’s and ten (10) years of experience, or master’s and seven (7+) years of relevant  

At least three (3) years of advanced experience supporting C-Level Executives.

At least three (3) years of proven work experience working with global staff and matrixed organizations.

Proven work experience utilizing excellent management skills and collaborative leadership approach with excellent strategic thinking analytical, influencing and project management skills.

English written and oral language skills.

Advanced skills in organizing meetings, assisting with travel and hotel accommodations, and providing general office operations support for meetings, such as preparing minutes and

Advanced Skills in developing, monitoring, managing, and reporting on budgets.

Foundational knowledge of research methods for papers, reports, speeches, and other documentation

Advanced skills in drafting and editing written materials used for reports, speeches, and related documents.

Advanced ability to plan and manage cross functional Project planning to fulfill performance objectives, including timely implementation and reporting.

Mastery of negotiation and influencing, through written and spoken

Preferred Competence and Work Experience:

Advanced experience supporting C-Level Executives working with a non-profit organization or INGO.

Three (3) years of experience working with a non-profit organization or INGO.

French and Portuguese oral and written language skills is an advantage.
