We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Water
Quality Research Intern to join our team. Under the supervision of the Project
Manager, the Water Quality Research Intern will contribute to the passive inline
chlorination Evaluation and Operation research and learning agenda and gain
valuable experience in a multicultural environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong
understanding of water quality and supply principles, attention to detail, and
excellent communication skills.
Roles And Responsibilities
Responsibility 1:
Technical and operational support for the installation, operations &
maintenance (O&M), testing, and scaling of passive chlorination systems
-40%
Support site and context screening to identify
optimal sites for installation of Venturi passive chlorinators, including field
visits, data collection on water system type, and configuration;
surveys/questionnaires; and microbial, chemical, and physical water quality
testing.
Support routine validation, sharing, and analyzing
data from site selections, water quality, operational performance, and user
feedback using the Survey CTO platform.
Support installation and routine maintenance (e.g.
for chlorine refills), and routine monitoring (e.g., for water quality,
functionality, and user feedback) of Venturi passive chlorinators at
institutional settings.
Support Venturi cost modeling.
Responsibility 2: Advocacy, community engagement and Communication -20%
Support Lead in facilitating targeted national and
county-level stakeholder dialogue workshops/forums on the Venturi trial design
and impact evaluation.
Support Venturi mass installation and monitor device
installation/functionality status, device efficacy, and utilization.
Responsibility 3: Representation, Liaison, and
networking with other collaborators – 20%
Support stakeholder engagement, training, and
socialization around centralized water treatment and chlorination (e.g. with
health workers, teachers, water management committees, and private sector
partners) to support community entry points, private sector interest, and
expansion of installation sites.
Support negotiations with national and relevant
county government departments.
Responsiblity 4: Research and documentation,
monitoring, evaluation, and data analysis – 15%
Support collection and analysis of data on gendered
patterns in use and perceptions of Venturi and electro-chlorination devices.
Support the development of the Venturi user
satisfaction feedback tool for healthcare facilities.
Support Pilot intervention activities, support and
collaborate with Berkeley to produce a draft implementation guide for Venturi
installations at healthcare facilities.
Other Responsibilities as assigned -5%
Keep up to date with CARE’s emerging strategies and
approaches and contribute proactively towards implementation. Take
responsibility for ensuring personal safety and security, giving due care and
consideration to the impact of personal decisions on the safety and security of
others.
Qualifications
Completed Diploma in water supply, water quality,
environmental health sciences, community development, and any other related
qualifications.
Knowledge of research ethics principles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and
attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the
ability to work in a multicultural professional environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Work experience is not a requirement.
The research Ethics course will be an added
advantage.
