Medical Specialist II, Ophthalmologist, Job in Kenya

Requirements for appointment:

  •  Be a Kenyan citizen;
  •  Be a holder of a Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., & ChB.) from a University recognized in Kenya;
  •  A Master’s Degree in the field of Ophthalmology from a University recognized in Kenya;
  •  Registered as a Medical/Specialist by Medical Practitioner and Dentist Council;
  •  Have a Valid Practicing License;
  •  Be of acceptable moral and professional standing;
  •  Willing to undertake duties in person in any part of Tharaka Nithi County as they will be assigned from time to time.

Duties and responsibilities


  • The Ophthalmologist shall be responsible to the employer and the supervisor for the following:
  •  Performing clinical patient management in Ophthalmology;
  •  Co-ordinating training, coaching and mentoring of health personnel in Ophthalmology;
  •  Supervising and mentoring other junior ophthalmologists;
  •  Developing intervention activities or programs for the management of diseases and conditions affecting the eyes;
  •  Developing Medical Standards Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols;
  •  Co-ordinating emergency response and clinical care in Ophthalmology.
  •  Coordinating health projects and programmes;
  •  Managing health information systems;
  •  Carrying out health surveys and research; and
  •  Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
  • For those with higher education certificates (degrees) from outside Kenya, a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission of University Education.
