Position: Temporary Data Collector (2 positions)

Job description
This rapid qualitative research will be conducted by a team of four people over a period of two weeks. Field work will be led by FHI 360 staff, working closely with one local research lead and two qualitative Data Collectors. This scope of work is for the Data Collector position, which will entail taking participants through the informed consent process; facilitation of IDIs and FGDs, including moderating discussions and notetaking; and team-based data synthesis and analysis. We require the Data Collector to be physically present during training and data collection.

  • Conducts qualitative data collection such as IDIs and FGDs to gather data for the assigned research study. This includes moderating discussions/interviews or taking detailed notes.
  • Translation of the provided questionnaires into the local dialects, as necessary
  • May collect additional structured data if required for the study
  • Meticulously maintains complete and accurate records and files pertaining to the assigned research study
  • Maintains participant confidentiality and security of data gathered
  • Accurately translates and transcribes collected data, as required
  • Participates in daily debrief sessions with the team at the end of the day to discuss and digitize data from the day’s activities and support an iterative synthesis process throughout the field work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • The position can entail long periods of sitting, standing and/or walking.
  • Workstations (postings) will vary from project to projectThere will be varied exposure to environmental elements such as sunshine, rain, cold, winds.
  • Field schedules vary from day to day and according to the preference of the potential study participants.
  • Fluent in Kiswahili, English, and Somali (as well as possibly additional local languages depending on location of research study). Part of the role will be to provide real-time translation to foreign team-members so spoken English is a priority.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to adapt to changing situations and group dynamics.
  • Research ethics training certification.
  • Proficiency in basic computer technology including word processing (e.g. Microsoft Word), email and basic data entry (e.g. Microsoft Excel).
  • Previous training and experience in qualitative research data collection methods is essential
  • BS/BA in relevant field and 1-3 years of relevant work experience;
  • Experience working with infectious disease, vaccination programs, and/or mass drug administration is preferred. Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative data collection. Demonstrated experience following specific research protocols
