Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization acting in the name of universal medical ethics and international humanitarian law.
Currently MSF is working in 8 different regions in South-Central Somalia and is interested to contract an experienced nurse specialized in anesthesia or ER to do medical evacuations for our international staff in case of medical emergencies.
Duties:
The Medevac Nurse will assist the Medevac Doctor or perform in the absence of the Doctor on the following tasks:
- Advice
on the type of drugs, material and equipment required for medical
evacuation depending on the case involved.
- Help
in the organization and preparation of evacuating the patient(s) at either
Nairobi Hospital or the Aga-Khan University Hospital in Nairobi
- Stabilization
of patient(s) before flight.
- Offer
in flight care to patient(s) as condition of patient demands.
- Hand
over of patients to the referral hospital with all the patients notes
- Write
a summary of the procedures done on patient before arrival to hospital.
- Regular
feedback to the medical coordinator involved during the evacuation.
Skills required
- Registered
nurse specialized in advanced life support.
- Registered
with the nursing council of Kenya.
Other requirements:
- Based
in Nairobi
- Valid
travel documents to Somalia.
- Ready
to leave at any time when security has been cleared by MSF.
- Practice
rights in Aga-Khan University and Nairobi Hospitals will be an added
advantage.
Type of Contract
This is not a full time job.
The selected candidate will be required to fly to Somalia on
demand as this is only for emergencies and will be paid only in case of
evacuation with a lump sum.
Location
- An
agreement to be signed in Nairobi.
- Nurse
to be based in Nairobi.
- Evacuations
will be conducted from Somalia to Nairobi.
