Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responds to all calls of duty by the intern doctor or nurse on duty whether emergency or otherwise as quickly as possible.
  • Physically review all patients and instruct, in writing, all recommendations
  • Assist the consultant in all wards, theatres and clinics
  • Filling relevant medical examination forms-P3, physical fitness, age assessment
  • Undertake certain specified emergency surgeries, minor or major, with the assistance of the intern doctor (s) or student(s)
  • Perform postmortems (PMs) and duly fill autopsy forms
  • Attend to court cases
  • Prepare and implement annual work plan based on department work plan
  • Conduct routine ward rounds alone or with consultants

Competencies and Qualifications


  • Be a Kenyan citizen
  • Be a holder of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B; Ch.B.) from a recognized institution
  • One year of Internship in a government approved facility
  • Registered by the Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists Board
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the values and principles outlined in Article 10 and 232 of the Constitution
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya
