Geographical Expansion Manager Job in Kenya

Reporting: Managing Director

Location: Nairobi, with frequent travelling to remote areas
Industry: Distribution of FMCG

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the function of the company’s franchise expansion plan.
  • Strategically assessing, prioritizing, and developing market entry plans for new areas, providing regular advice to senior management on expansion strategy.
  • Assess, prioritize, and develop the route-to-market for new areas.
  • Identifying potential locations up to the preparation of the new franchise to kick start the operation following the company’s expansion strategy.
  • Market Research: Working with the market research surveyors researching and tracking potential new markets according to new market entry criteria.
  • Carrying out a detailed feasibility study on chosen locations
  • Liaising with various agencies in the space search both government and non-governmental as a resource Centre.
  • Negotiation with the landlords and finalization of related documents e.g. Heads of Terms, Lease,

  • Liaising with various authorities to receive necessary approvals eg licenses
  • Manage projects conducting test sales (pilots) in these markets for some areas
  • Co-ordination of the build out works with contractors
  • Coordinating with various HQ departments in preparation of the new franchise setup
  • New Business Development: Assist sales managers in developing and managing new distribution routes to the market. Together with the sales department, develop appropriate sales and marketing strategies & and tactics for each new market.
  • New Product Development: Advise the product design team with respect to the new product development and market needs and desires in the new areas of expansion
  • Reporting: Produce weekly and monthly reports for the senior management team highlighting new market potential, forecasts, successes & and failures, and path forward.


  • Skills and Experience of 10 years with 5+ years of Sales and/or Operations Mid to Senior level
  • Management in a retail chain operation with a branch network, not less than 20 outlets in a similar capacity.
  • B2C & B2B sales, route-to-market, and supply chain, and new business development experience successfully developing operations in a new market.
  • Ability to produce and present professional strategy, reports, accurate forecasts, and oversee channel sales plans.
  • Data Analysis experience
  • A degree in business/marketing from a recognized institute
  • Ability to travel frequently to the remote areas on a short notice
