Role Description
- This is a full-time on-site role for a
Gender Technical Advisor located in Nairobi County, Kenya. The Gender
Technical Advisor will contribute to an innovative project exploring the
multifaceted dimensions of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) while integrating
gender perspectives. The project, GEAR UP is implemented by Liverpool
School of Tropical Medicine as the prime partner with LVCT Health
implementing it in Kenya and Uganda. Through the One Health lens, the
Project will bring evidence of how gender dynamics intersect with AMR
transmission and antibiotic practices, promoting inclusive and
gender-responsive approaches to combat AMR threats effectively. The
successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing
gender-responsive research and implementation within the AMR project while
actively contributing to broader LVCT Health institutional gender
initiatives that contribute to a holistic approach to gender equality and
inclusion beyond the scope of research.

Roles and Responsibilities
Research:
- Conducting gender-related research,
analysis, and outputs
- Develop and execute research plans within
the scope of the gender-related study
- Plan and conducts day-to-day research
activities relating to assigned research projects
- Design methodologies that align with
project objectives, ensuring rigour and relevance
- Oversee data mining, collection,
analysis, synthesis, visualization and presentation utilizing advanced
research methods
- Employ advanced qualitative and
quantitative data analysis techniques as required to derive meaningful
insights
- Interpret research findings and
contribute to the development of publications
Capacity building:
- Develop resources and training to
increase staff and partner knowledge and skills on gender
- Undertake capacity building through the
provision of mentorship and support to project and partner staff involved
in the project
- Actively participate in scholarly
engagements through the development of seminars, webinars, journal clubs
and other capacity-building methods
- Monitor capacity building of project and
partner staff
Program Design &
Implementation
- Coordinating project teams
- Ensuring that gender analysis informs
program design and management among AMR project partners and in LVCT
programs
- Identifying strategic actions to improve
program implementation quality
- Facilitating the application of gender
and intersectional approaches in program implementation
Policy &
Advocacy:
- Participating in the design of policy and
influencing strategies at national and sub-national levels using evidence
from research and programs
- Participating in relevant technical
working groups to influence policy and guidelines
Monitoring &
Evaluation:
- Monitoring project implementation against
deliverables and milestones
- Monitoring and analysing gender
developments at the national and international levels and using them to
inform the project
- Oversight for evaluation of the project
and providing technical support for gender evaluation of LVCT Health
projects
Documentation:
- Documenting lessons for policy dialogue,
public advocacy, and future programming through various means
- Lead the development of research papers
for submission to peer-reviewed high-impact journals
- Collaborate with the communications team
to document project activities and communicate them via various platforms
Collaboration &
Learning:
- Organizing the dissemination of learning
within the team and with partners
- Disseminate research findings at
conferences, workshops, and other relevant forums
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams,
fostering a collaborative research environment to enhance the scope and
impact of the study
- Establish and maintain professional
networks & partnerships with other researchers and institutions in
gender studies
Resource Mobilization
- Continuously identify opportunities and
partnerships for resource mobilization
- Contribute to the development of grant
proposals to secure funding for continued research and
implementation
Qualifications
- Education: Masters’ Degree in a relevant
field, such as Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, or a
related discipline focusing on gender-related research. PhD will be an
added advantage
Experience
- Proven experience in conducting
independent gender-related research
- Expertise in both qualitative and
quantitative research methodologies
- Familiarity with intersectionality and an
understanding of diverse gender experiences
- Experience in participating in policy and
advocacy forums in Kenya and beyond
- Track record of publications in reputable
journals within the field of gender-related research
- Experience in grant writing and securing
research funding is advantageous
