Commercial Manager Job in Kenya

Job purpose

This main purpose of this role is to lead the commercial department to drive sales growth and increase customer base in order to grow the company’s revenue in line with the company’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

Participate in the development of the company’s business strategy as part of the executive team.

Develop and oversee implementation of an innovative and growth focused commercial strategy that will include the sales and distribution, go-to-market, corporate social responsibility, marketing, branding, customer experience and public relations strategies in order to ensure realization of the company’s business objectives.

Actively pursue, convert and close strategic/large projects in order to drive business growth and maximise the company’s commercial success.

Build and maintain strong and long-lasting customer relationships in order to ensure a sustainable customer base.

Direct the commercial team to drive sales volumes on all company products and services in line with set sales targets.

Conduct market research and intelligence in order to create detailed business plans to inform management on commercial opportunities for expansion and business development.

Lead new product development activities and introduce new products in the market in line with busines requirements.

Monitor performance of the commercial department using key metrics and prepare periodic performance reports for submission to the CEO and the Board of Directors.

Grow a strong brand for the company in order to increase brand value and achieve business objectives.

Drive the CSR agenda through implementation of CSR programs in consultation with the CEO in order to build the company’s brand.

Act as the company’s relationship officer to safeguard the company’s reputation and image.

Define and deliver high standards of customer experience to ensure utmost customer retention and sustainability to the business.

Develop the sales revenue budget in collaboration with the CEO and Head of Finance and Business Operations.

Resolve escalated customer complaints to ensure timely closure and customer satisfaction.

Lead, motivate, coach and develop the commercial team to ensure high productivity and engagement in the commercial department.

Establish standards of performance and monitor staff performance through periodic performance reviews in line with the company’s performance management cycle.

Any other work that may be assigned to the jobholder by the supervisor from time to time.

The Head of Commercial is:

Directly accountable to the MD and is part of the executive team.

Required to work with all other departments in the company.

External Relationships:





Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Business Management, Marketing, Strategic Management or any other related fields.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration or other business-related fields would be an added advantage.

Minimum 10 years’ experience in sales, marketing or business development with 5 years at management level.

Experience in the construction industry would be highly desirable.

Technical competencies

Proven experience in sales and/or marketing and managing relationships with key customers

In-depth understanding of market research methods and analysis

Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes

Commercial awareness partnered with sound knowledge of the construction industry.

Ability to win deals and create a culture of vibrancy and success within the department

Strong understanding of the construction industry.

Proven track record of building long-lasting customer relationships.

Ability to think strategically alongside a passion to turn strategy into results.
