Ophthalmic Clinical Officer

Main Purpose of the Role

 Reporting to the Deputy Medical Director, the incumbent shall be tasked with the overall responsibility for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients.

 Key Responsibilities


  1. Provide consultations (history taking and physical examination to patients) and prescribe appropriate medication.
  2. Carry out appropriate investigations for diagnosis and monitoring
  3. Diagnose and conduct cataract surgeries as required
  4. Select and refer complicated eye surgeries to the Ophthalmologist for further management
  5. Perform minor eye surgeries e.g Chalazion, trachoma surgeries and refer complicated cases appropriately
  6. Increase community awareness to participation in eye care especially cataract identification and referrals
  7. Take part in planning and participating in Outreach camps
  8. Ensure that all assessments and treatment provided are properly documented on patients’ files
  9. Take part in clinical meetings, research and audit
  10. Carry out other relevant duties as may be required or assigned by your supervisor

Knowledge and Experience Required

  1. Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine- Ophthalmology/ Cataract surgery from a recognized institution.
  2. Registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya
  3. Must be a team player and flexible
  4. Demonstrate ability to uphold and align oneself with the core values of city eye
