Nutrition Assistant
PURPOSE:
- The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for implementation
of Nutrition projects in collaboration with other health staff, to
increase Nutrition-Health integration. The Officer will facilitate good
practice and ensure compliance to applicable implementation guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and organize OTP and SFP at the transit center in
liaison with volunteers and nutrition at the county hospital.
- Work closely with volunteers and MIYCN counsellors to ensure
all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate
referrals take place when beneficiaries get relocated to Kakuma
- Supervise health activities at the transit Centre.
- Work closely with the teams to ensure all children are
screened correctly, all criteria are understood by the teams, including
admission, discharge and transfer to and from the OTP/SFP at the county
and Kakuma.
- Ensure the correct clinical diagnosis at the time of
assessment according to the IMAM protocols are adhered to so that the
patient receives appropriate treatment in the relevant program.
- Ensure timely identification of complications,
non-responders, and referrals to the relevant health facilities at the
county.
- Ensure correctness, consistence and completeness of the
information in the nutrition registers.
- Ensure adequate availability of food supplies and stock is
pre-positioned as planned by discussing with logistics.
- Through liaison with the volunteers and nutritionist at the
county provide effective follow up of all cases admitted at the hospital.
- Provide key health and education messages to beneficiaries
based the protocol and guidelines.
- Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the
program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the OTP/SFP sites
and ultimate report during referral.
- Submit daily stock report, weekly HIS report and weekly
health post report.
- Support branch daily activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Nutrition from a recognized college/University
- Must be registered by Kenya nutritionist and dietetic
institute
- At least 2 years’ experience of working in a refugee /
transit centre/displacement centres set up or a similar context under the
IMAM /CMAM program.
- IMAM and MIYCN training is an added advantage
- An understanding of the UNHCR /WFP reporting system will be
an added advantage.
Key Competencies
- Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation
skills.
- Should be a team player and culturally sensitive.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as
word processing, spreadsheets and utilization of the internet.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and
ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.
- Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with
stressful situations.
