Director.
ABOUT ICJ KENYA
Established in 1959, the Kenyan
Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) is a
non–partisan, membership non-governmental organization with a membership drawn
from the Bar and Bench. The organization's primary mission is to promote and
protect human rights, justice, democracy, and the rule of law in Africa. ICJ
Kenya has a consistent track record of well-informed advocacy and thought
leadership and is widely acknowledged as a premier human rights organization in
Kenya and around Africa.
THE Position OF Executive Director
This is a full-time position,
and the job holder will report directly to the Governing Council.
OVERALL PURPOSE
- Providing strategic direction to the organization while
leading a professional and support staff team in achieving ICJ Kenya's
goals.
- As Secretary to the ICJ Kenya Council, providing
administrative support to the Council and strategic guidance to membership
committees and/or ad hoc organs established by the membership and/or
Council.
- Leading the development, review, and implementation of key
organizational policies and procedures.
- Providing leadership and support to resource mobilization,
Programme development and implementation, human resource, and financial
management.
- Working closely with the Governing Council, development
partners, and other civil society actors to ensure that ICJ Kenya remains
relevant, credible, and sustainable. Directly supervise the Deputy
Executive Director, Finance Manager, Programme Manager, People, Culture
and Administration Manager, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Teams,
and the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Teams.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over ten years post
admission experience;
- Master's degree in law, human rights, social studies,
strategic leadership, business administration, or any other related field;
- At least five years' experience in senior and or executive
management;
- At least five years of demonstrable regional experience in
human rights, rule of law, and governance issues;
- Well-developed skills in board and personnel management;
- Demonstrable experience in resource mobilization and
financial management;
- Experience in managing membership activities will be an added
advantage;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Demonstrable capacity in leadership and partnership
management with the capacity to represent ICJ Kenya in a variety of
situations, from grassroots to high-level engagements and
- Must possess good diplomatic skills.
