Senior Social Worker (Students Psycho-social Support)

Program Description: AmericaShare implements school sponsorship program that addresses access to education for children from the marginalized community in Mukuru Slums.

The program identifies children with multiple vulnerabilities whose education would be hampered or affected by the nature of their background; family status, financial situation, social and psychological factors that make them prone to dropping out from school or in the worst situation not attending school all together.

Role Description: Reporting to the Senior Administrative Manager, The Senior Social Worker will facilitate program development, provide overall coordination and strategic direction, forge networks with other stakeholders and monitor, evaluate and report on students psycho social development.

H/she will also be responsible for planning and implementing activities aimed at supporting mental health of students.

Specific Roles

Hold regular reviews and assessments with all beneficiaries /Target Groups, parents, referral agents and contact persons to identify areas of need.

Interview students in order to understand their current state, needs, wants, strengths and weaknesses

Monitor, oversee and evaluate clients’ progress

Assign clients to community and health referral services when needed

Evaluate students based on their needs, limitations and desires; Carry out social assessments of the families and students; Conduct home visits to families assessed to verify further information given and also establish their economic status.

Facilitate the educational development of sponsored children; Monitor the performance and progress of all the children supported in the program every term and develop progress reports; organize any supportive holiday programme ensuring for the students.

In collaboration with the other social workers, conduct counselling sessions for the identified special student cases and provide emotional support.

Monitor the progress of individual students by regularly following up on them.

Establish links and develop networks with other like-minded CBOs, GOK departments and community in supporting the students Psycho social needs.

Maintain good relations with all departments through ensuring prompt correspondence and providing regular updates on progress of the programmes.

Provide counselling services to students and guardians whenever necessary.

Perform any other tasks as may be requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or Community Development. Additional training in counselling is highly desirable.

A Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in an education program or community development programs in a Non-Governmental Organization, particularly dealing with adolescents.

Active membership to a professional body.

Excellent communication skills including oral presentation, reporting and computer operations.

A Team player with high level of interpersonal skills.

Willingness to work in informal settings

Good time-management skills

Great interpersonal and communication skills

Good understanding of Adolescence Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights.

Preferably over 35 years of age.
