Project Coordinator, Action III Trial Project

The University of Nairobi – ACTION III Project is seeking a project coordinator to oversee a key WHO-funded grant in the implementation of Antenatal CorticosTeroids for Improving outcomes in preterm Newborns (ACTION) trial III project.

The project coordinator will coordinate all aspects of the implementation and results reporting of the project from the University of Nairobi side in collaboration with the Program Manager at WHO and all Principal Investigators (PIs).

The project coordinator will work directly with the PIs and key personnel to ensure goals are met within the specified times. The coordinator will assist in data collection, collation, evaluation and tracking achievement of program aims and preparing reports for all stakeholders.

This position is located at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Nairobi, Nairobi, Kenya.

Job specifications

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent with a pass in English.

Kenya Registered Nurse Midwife or Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing will be an added advantage.

Must have 5 years working experience in maternity unit preferably in labour ward and newborn unit.

Experience providing program implementation, management and administrative support

Experience in clinical research will have an added advantage.

Must be excellent in computer skills.

 Duties and Responsibilities


Provide overall project administration for the grant through planning, organization, coordination, and timeline management.

Provide protocol training to the study and facility staff and work with the management to develop appropriate strategies in order to ensure the safe and accurate implementation of the project (i.e. development of new standard operating procedures and standards)

Plan, schedule and attend meetings with administrative team members, collaborators and PIs to support implementation and management of the project.

Provide project management support for project level monitoring and evaluation; ensure appropriate, timely and high-quality project technical reports are compiled and submitted.

Mobilizing stakeholders and participating hospitals as per the agreement and fulfilling project objectives.

Managing and mobilizing human, material and financial resources of the project and assessing the country-specific resource needs for project activities.

Obtaining local approval(s) for the project and submitting amendments as necessary.

Ensuring that the trial is conducted in accordance with the protocol, associated standard operating procedures, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and local regulatory requirements.

Maintain the Investigator Site File (ISF) and patient Case Report Form (CRF) files, ensuring that documentation is current and accurate.

Work autonomously to maximize recruitment into the trials.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all involved staff (investigators, administrator, nurses, data team, etc)

Provide oversight of data collection and management.

Any other related duties as may be given by the Principal Investigator Investigator(s)

 Terms of appointment

This is a position whose tenure is a three (3) months contract, renewable based on performance and by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
