Manager, Plants Operations,
Job purpose
Reporting to Managing Commissioner,
the successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking maintenance,
repair and construction activities in the Commission.
Duties and
responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Overseeing
the development, implementation and review of policies, strategies,
guidelines and procedures on plant operations;
- Facilitating
the development of specifications and cost analysis of buildings, motor
vehicles and plant;
- Spearheading
the preparation and installation of various equipment;
- Overseeing
inspection and evaluation of buildings and construction works and motor
vehicles;
- Interpreting
architectural and engineering drawings, specifications;
- Overseeing
the preparation of specifications and estimates for building renovations
and maintenance works;
- Facilitating
approval of building construction and maintenance contracts;
- Facilitating
maintenance, repair and construction activities in the Commission;
- Ensuring
economical generation of steam and electrical power usage;
- Ensuring
prescribed standards for industrial safety are applied as required by
statutory regulating bodies;
- Overseeing
all KMC projects from design, implementation to completion; Management of
capex;
- Ensuring
occupation safety and health within the Commission;
- Overseeing
refrigeration and cold chain management;
- Ensuring
maintenance of records for the plant;
- Ensuring
availability of adequate water, machine spares, working tools and
equipment;
- Coordinating
motor rewinding to ensure reliance in motor management;
- Spearheading
the development and implementation of the Department’s plans, budgets and
performance contract;
- Ensuring
compliance with good governance and code of ethics; and Managing and
developing staff in the Department
Person Specifications
For appointment to this
grade, an officer must have:
- Master’s
degree in any of the following disciplines: Civil/ Building/Construction
Technology/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical or equivalent
qualification from a recognized institution;
- Bachelor’s
degree in any of the following disciplines: Civil/ Building/ Construction
Technology/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/
Metallurgical/Instrumentation and Control Engineering or equivalent
qualification from a
recognized institution; - Served
in the grade of Assistant Manager, Plant Operations or in a comparable and
relevant position in the relevant field, which must be a senior management
level;
- Membership
to a relevant professional body in good standing;
- Certificate
in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a
recognized institution;
- Proficiency
in computer application skills;
- Fulfilled
the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution;
- Demonstrated
merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
- Work
experience with manufacturing industry is an added advantage.
- Exhibited
a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and
ability to relate them to proper management of the supply chain management
function.
