Major
function role will be:
To implement Integrated Water Resource
Management projects and activities in the Amboseli Chyulu sub Landscape and
larger SOKNOT landscape to enable sustainable water resources management and
improved restoration of water resources. The position will largely support
the implementation of water resource restoration measures for
the “Large-scale Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in Africa: Tree-rich
landscapes to foster biodiversity, climate change resilience and better
livelihoods” programme in Amboseli, Kenya.
Roles
and responsibilities:
- Initiate
and support implementation of integrated water management projects and
activities in the sub landscape in line with project work plans, WWF
strategic plan, and in consultation with thematic lead;
- Work
closely with communities (WRUAs, CFAs, Conservancies) and other key
stakeholders to develop actions that will ensure participatory and sustainable
management of water resources in line with project work plans, WWF
strategic plan, and in consultation with thematic lead;
- Develop
and implement contribution in identifying participatory programmes that
enhance restoration and protection of catchment and biodiversity hotspots
in the freshwater environment;
- Initiate
and support participatory management critical water catchment areas;
- Develop
a monitoring program to document the status of fresh water resources and
program intervention milestones;
- Participate
and contribute in organizing stakeholder’s forums;
- Prepares
and presents technical and monitoring reports on the progress of
implementation of Integrated Water Conservation project activities;
- Document
and disseminate communication materials highlighting progress of the
freshwater focused projects to promote cross projects linkages and synergy
in order to secure water resources the Amboseli Chyulu Sub landscape;
- Participates
in knowledge management through conservation research, publication and
dissemination of scientific research including representing WWF Kenya in
national, regional and international conservation platforms;
- Participates
in the domestication of relevant national and regional policy instruments
at local level;
- Contributes
awareness raising and visibility of the project, ensures stakeholders
engagement and supports resource mobilization efforts.
- In
consultations with Freshwater Thematic lead and other WWF Kenya staff
facilitate cross-border initiatives in;
Required Qualifications:
- A
Bachelor’s degree in water, natural resource management, environmental
science, biology of conservation or related field of studies.
- A
master’s degree and other additional professional trainings in
related fields will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- At
least five years of field experience in natural resources management
issues with specific background and hands on experience in fresh water
resource management;
- Must
have a good understanding of fresh water conservation initiatives in
Kenya, resource assessment at national & local level, addressing
socio-economic factors, resource threats impacting the landscape &
developing and implementing conservation plans;
- A
proven ability to work effectively with local Civil Society Organizations
and facilitating links between government and communities in the water
sector.

Relationships
Internal: Interacts
with the Chief Executive Officer, Director Conservation Programmes, Programme
Managers and All WWF Kenya staff.
External:
Interacts with WWF-Africa Staff, WWF Network, Government Ministries and
Departments, Civil Society Organizations, the private sector, Service
Providers, Regulatory bodies and other Conservation Agencies.
