conflict, natural disasters, outbreaks and epidemics or healthcare exclusion.
The organization now works in more than 70 countries around the world, with
significant projects across East African countries including in Burundi, Ethiopia,
Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
OVERVIEW
MSF is recruiting a
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) & Responsible Behavior Unit Lead, to
work in conjunction with the Management Team, to guarantee the overall
transversal implementation of strategies and policies as outlined in its
framework. They will continuously build and alter these strategies and polices
as the function of the section will evolve.
The DEI/Behavior Unit Lead will drive strategic collaborations and new initiatives forward. While each Management Team member and all staff are responsible to incorporate DEI into all aspects of the work, the Unit Lead will provide support to ensure that strategies are on track that stakeholders are engaged, and that MSF is progressing towards set goals and having the impact intended. Furthermore, the Unit Lead will partner across sections to strengthen collaborations that will directly support the Units specific strategies and goals. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional organizational skills and a strategic vision to support the vision of MSF becoming an inclusive and equitable organization that will attract and retain talent of diverse people with divers lived experience.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
Under the supervision of
the General Director, they will support and develop integration of DEI policies
and tools in line with global commitments and regional framework. Strengthen
awareness and accountability of strategies on Responsible Behavior and
facilitate support through coordination on pool of investigators building on
regional and cultural proximity.
Given the position is for
a new unit, responsibilities and priorities might be revised over time.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Work on DEI
- Develop,
review and make recommendations for improvement in existing DEI
strategies, policies and initiatives.
- Evaluate
the section Vision, annual plan set up & structure
(organizational/operations/management) to ensure that DEI is considered
and centered in the design, content and metrics.
- Create
and coordinate a transversal workforce on the topic of DEI to improve
employee engagement.
- Design
and implement an annual survey on DEI to measure outcomes and impacts of
internal strategies and incentives.
Strategic Work on Responsible Behavior
- Review
and align departmental policies, guidelines and procedures with relevant
content on Responsible Behavior with the regional framework.
- Provide
leadership consultations on addressing both challenges and opportunities
Responsible Behavior as they may occur.
- Coordinate
the pool of investigators and support case management of investigations.
Align to the global wide framework once validated by the Executive
Committee.
- Design
and implement an annual survey on Responsible Behaviour to measure
outcomes and impacts of internal strategies and incentives.
Building Networks
- Collaborate
with Communications and Fundraising to design and facilitate
implementation of an external engagement plan for future donors and the
public that will clearly communicate and demonstrate the centered value of
DEI and Responsible Behaviour in our organization.
- Collaborate
with Learning and Development Unit to provide a training and development
plan for management and staff that improves understanding of best
practices.
- Collaborate
with Human Resources on recruiting strategies that will attract and retain
talent of people with diverse lived experiences.
- Collaborate
with Anthropology Unit and Counter Terrorism Unit on equitable approaches
to the identification of future operations and focus areas.
- Collaborate
with Security Unit on prevention and response to abuses.
- As
part of the MSF network, collaborate with other platforms, teams and units
to realize and align global ambitions with the local context.
External Engagement
- Expand
regional networks and collaborations to advance on DEI and Responsible
Behavior engagement strategies.
- Design
and facilitate and external engagement plan that will report on efforts,
outcomes and impacts on the two topics. It shall aim to communicate a
public commitment to DEI and Responsible Behavior and our investment in
data collection and tracking systems to back up ongoing strategies.
Team management and Supervision
- Manage
& supervise a focal point for DEI & Responsible Behavior that will
facilitate mutual learning and collaboration on the topic within the
section.

Support the network through identification of resources/staff and various
capacities that can be part of the global network & support structure.
- The
Head of the Unit shall supervise case management of investigations carried
out by the pool and work close with other management team members to
ensure capacity is sustainable.
Qualifications
Any combination of
education and experience that demonstrates a in depth level understanding of
DEI, Responsible Behavior and organizational development. This may include:
- University
degree in international development, social sciences, law, education or
similar field. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion specific education (or
experience) highly valued
- 5+
years of experience in developing and implementing initiatives of DEI and
Responsible Behavior, including experience in creating collaborative and
productive working relationships across sectors.
- Knowledge
of DEI and Responsible Behavior principles and capacity to use it to
empower and create engagement.
- Ability
to design, implement and evaluate DEI strategies and programming.
- Ability
to coach, mentor and facilitate a broad spectrum of people on the topics.
- Excellent
written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong
commitment to social justice and equity.
- Fluency
in English is required, and knowledge of French and a third language is
desirable.
- People

We Offer
A full-time employment
contract as soon as possible through MSF East Africa Section Office in Nairobi.
An annual salary of KES 5,181,181 based on a fulltime appointment.
Global benefit
package; includes school fee benefit/support for dependents and other
allowances ranging between KES 75,000-140,000/month based on individual &
administrative status.
Other benefits
include: 25 days of annual leave, Employer Pension contribution, Relocation
support for non-Kenyan residents etc. based on MSF EA terms/conditions.
