(MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization
providing assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics, natural
or non-natural disasters or persons excluded from access to health care. The
organization has health projects in more than 68 countries.
MSF is looking to fill the
position of a Community Engagement Manager based in Homa Bay. The successful
candidate reports to the Project Coordinator and supervises the community
engagement team.
Objective of the Position:
Establishing a regular participatory dialogue with key stakeholders (different segments of the community, patients, staff, MoH), involving them in the definition of problems and identification of potential solutions- as an ongoing process, contributing to the improvement of services and feeding into the strategic choices of the team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Co-Defining
and updating the Community and Patient Engagement (CE and PE) strategy
with key stakeholders, taking into account the cohesiveness between CE/PE
strategy and key project components (e.g., Health promotion, crisis
surveillance, medical and non-medical packages/activities,
participation/feedback from communities)
- Ensure
ongoing dialogue with the communities/patients and caregivers: Involve the
community in the identification of priorities, the definition of problems,
and the identification of potential solutions ensuring that the
perspectives of the various segments of the population are taken into
account
- Identify
segments of the community with critical needs (assistance and
protection);Identify and address barriers of access of all segments of the
community to MSF services. Ensure the cultural adaptation and the local
relevance of the MSF response.
- Regular
collaboration with the MTL and MSF medical team, to ensure the optimum
delivery of Health promotion and education activities throughout the
continuum of care
- Supervising
the CE/HP team and their activities, reporting, adapting format and
content when necessary in close collaboration with medical and logistical
teams. Planning and supervising the HR associated processes (recruitment,
training, evaluation, development and internal communication) of the CE /
HP staff of the project.
- In
collaboration with Project Coordinator, liases with other relevant actors:
strengthen the referral and linkage network: meet and map different actors
within the community who can address specific issues through partnership;
Ensure the documentation and timely analysis of key information gathered
through engagement with stakeholders
- Patient
safeguarding: develop and systematically communicate prevention messages on
patient safeguarding as part of all community and patient engagement
activities
- Organize
and participate in trainings on patient/community led advocacy. Follow up
with communities and patients on ongoing advocacy actions
- Closely
work with Mobile Health Activity Manager on the definition and
implementation of the DSDM for Chronic Disease taking into account the
needs of the patients and capacities of the communities
- Support
the Mental Health and Psycho Social Support supervisor for linkage with
communities for patients needing/enrolled in social support programs
Requirements:
Education
- University
degree in social sciences, social communication, health promotion or related
studies or sufficient relevant work experience in community engagement
and/or project management.
Knowledge & Experience
- Mandatory: Minimum of at least 2 years
working experience in related jobs (community engagement/ project
coordination /social research). Experienced in front line community
relations, with a hands-on approach to engaging with a wide range of
stakeholders and a track record in resolving issues. Demonstrable
background in the development of strategies and workplans.
- Essential: Experience in quantitative
and qualitative data analysis. Must be proficient in use of computers and
MS Office.
- Desirable: experience in Human Centered
