Senior Legal Officer
Airtel
Networks Kenya Limited wishes to recruit a Senior Legal Officer within the
Legal and Regulatory Department. This role is responsible for providing legal
advice and services to enable the company to conduct its business within the
existing legal framework without undue exposure to liability and risk.
Reporting to the Head of Legal Affairs, the incumbent’s role will include but
not limited to the following:
Duties & Responsibilities
- Exercise due diligence in ensuring that
contracts are drafted and or reviewed within required timelines.
- Undertaking legal research and advise
business functions on interpretation of applicable laws, contract terms
and organization policies to aid in compliance and implementation.
- Periodically reviewing contracts issued to
clients and service/content providers so as to address legal concerns that
may have arisen or are likely to arise and advise on correspondence with
the said parties to forestall potential disputes
- Ensuring distributor bank guarantees comply
with Airtel requirements and subsequent authentication by the issuing
banks.
- Advise the business in formulation of
organization policy documents for business processes ensuring that the
organization is able to meet its business and contractual objectives
within the law while avoiding undue disadvantage or exposure to risk.
- Maintain a quarterly legal compliance
checklist and continuously updating the same with emerging legislation and
regulations to drive a culture of adherence.
- Ensure the company’s position is secured
through properly registered leases within the agreed timeframe.
- Track ongoing issues, demand letters from
customers, suppliers and other third parties.
- Issuing accurate instructions to external
counsels handling the company’s litigation matters to secure company’s
interests and supporting external counsels with their litigation briefs.
- Drive the reduction of disputes referred to
arbitration and/or litigation through proper case management.
- Monitor payment of legal fees to external
counsels as per budgetary allocations.
- Assist in company secretarial duties by
ensuring proper record keeping of the Company’s legal documents and
contracts.
- Undertaking various legal projects of the
company as and when they arise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Advocate of the
High Court of Kenya. A Masters is an added advantage
- 3- 5 years’ work experience post admission
to the bar in providing commercial legal support in a busy undertaking.
- Having worked in the telecommunications or
consumer service industry is an added advantage

organization skills.
- Good interpersonal skills to build
relationships vertically and horizontally across the business.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
